About Cafe Bakery Restaurant

Cafe Bakery Restaurant, situated at 1365 Noriega St in San Francisco, California, caters to those seeking the comforting and familiar flavors of Hong Kong-style cuisine. Operating within the Chinese Restaurant category, this establishment has garnered a reputation, particularly among locals, for its generous portions and selection of classic dishes. Based on recent customer feedback, dining at Cafe Bakery Restaurant offers a unique experience with both its strengths and areas for consideration.

For patrons craving authentic Hong Kong-style fare, Cafe Bakery Restaurant appears to be a go-to destination. One long-time customer expressed that it is their preferred restaurant when the craving for this specific type of cuisine strikes. While they admit to often sticking to their usual orders, this loyalty speaks to a consistent satisfaction with certain menu items. Their regular choices include oxtail over rice for their husband and either chicken a la king over rice or baked pork chop with tomato sauce for themselves. These dishes seem to be signature offerings that keep customers returning.

A notable feature consistently highlighted is the substantial portion sizes served at Cafe Bakery Restaurant. According to a reviewer, the portions remain large even when ordering food to go, suggesting that diners can expect a satisfying amount of food regardless of whether they choose to eat in or take their meal elsewhere. This generosity in serving size can be a significant draw for those looking for a hearty and filling meal.

The quality of the food is generally described as "good" or "decent" by reviewers. However, one long-term patron noted that the saltiness of the dishes can vary depending on the cook, indicating a potential for inconsistency in flavor. Despite this occasional issue, their continued patronage suggests that the overall quality remains acceptable and enjoyable for them.

In terms of service, feedback has been mixed. One early experience reported "bland" service and an instance of being ignored when requesting a tea refill, which was eventually resolved by another staff member. However, a more recent update from the same reviewer indicated an improvement in service quality. This suggests that the restaurant may have addressed previous service issues, leading to a more positive experience for some diners.

A crucial piece of information for potential customers is that Cafe Bakery Restaurant operates as a cash-only establishment. This is explicitly mentioned in a review, so it is essential for diners to come prepared with cash as other forms of payment are not accepted. This policy is a significant factor to consider before visiting.

Adding an interesting historical note, the long-time customer mentioned that the restaurant previously had a bakery located next door. During that time, patrons would receive complimentary sweet buns before their meal. This service is no longer offered, indicating a change in the restaurant's offerings over time. This anecdote provides a glimpse into the restaurant's history and its evolution.

A more recent point of feedback, updated in February 2025, brings attention to a "silly 25 cents surcharge for take out container if you don't finish your food." The reviewer labeled this a "scam." This policy regarding takeout containers is something potential diners should be aware of, particularly if they anticipate needing to take leftovers home. This surcharge could be a point of frustration for some customers.

Information regarding the environment or ambiance of Cafe Bakery Restaurant is limited in the provided reviews. The name "Cafe Bakery Restaurant" suggests a potentially casual and multi-faceted establishment, possibly with a cafe-like setting. However, without more specific descriptions, it is difficult to paint a clear picture of the restaurant's atmosphere or decor. It likely serves as a comfortable and functional space for enjoying their Hong Kong-style dishes.

In terms of services, Cafe Bakery Restaurant primarily functions as a dine-in restaurant. The mention of takeout orders indicates that they do offer food to go. However, as noted, there may be a surcharge associated with takeout containers for unfinished food. There is no information provided about delivery services, so customers interested in this option would need to inquire directly.

Currently, there is no specific promotional information mentioned in the reviews. There are no mentions of discounts, special offers, or ongoing promotions. Customers looking for such information would need to contact the restaurant directly via phone at (415) 661-6116 or mobile at +1 415-661-6116 to inquire.

In conclusion, Cafe Bakery Restaurant offers a taste of Hong Kong-style comfort food in San Francisco's Noriega Street neighborhood. Known for its generous portions and popular dishes like oxtail over rice, chicken a la king over rice, and baked pork chop with tomato sauce, it serves as a regular spot for those craving these specific flavors. Potential diners should be aware that it is a cash-only establishment and that there is a surcharge for takeout containers for unfinished food. While service experiences have varied, recent feedback suggests improvement. For those seeking hearty portions of Hong Kong-style cuisine, Cafe Bakery Restaurant is worth considering, keeping in mind their payment policy and potential takeout surcharge.

Food is decent for a hefty price. Service is bland. One of the Asian women saw me and ignored me when I needed a tea refill. Luckily for me, another lady assisted me with the tea. UPDATE: 2-20-2025 Service is better and food is still decent. Beware of silly 25 cents surcharge for take out container if you don't finish your food. What a scam?

My go to restaurant when I feel like eating Hong Kong style food. I should be more adventurous but I always stick to my usual. My husband always order his oxtail over rice and me my chicken a la king over rice or baked pork chip with tomato sauce. Their portions are huge even when you order Togo’s. The food is good although sometimes depending on the cook, it’s a bit salty for me. The chicken a la king. Make sure you bring cash. It’s a cash only establishment. But would I go back? Yes. Definitely. Being go there when they had a bakery next door and they would give us 2 or 4 little sweet buns before our food came. They don’t serve that anymore. That’s how long ago I have been coming to this cafe.

#2 A Hong Kong café I’ve loved for a long time! Since the pandemic, many things have changed. Some businesses have thrived, while others that used to do well have started struggling. This place is one of the latter. In recent years, everything has become much more expensive, leading to significant changes in restaurant prices as well. This café is no exception. Once a spot where people would line up, it’s hard to find those scenes anymore. That said, this place is still delicious, still affordable, and still serves generous portions! They have daily specials, and they even serve jello for dessert! I love their pasta, pork chops, and milk tea—it’s all so good! #1 One place you might want to consider for a Hong Kong-style lunch cafe!! It offers generous portions and decent flavors for the price. Enjoy your meal in Hong Kong! Baked ham pasta with white sauce.

Ordered the Wednesday special for $18.95. Sole with Portuguese sauce over rice. The sauce had a curry flavor. The macaroni and ham soup was ok. The milk tea and jello hit the spot. Big lunch.

I only discovered this restaurant because my mom brought a to-go order home. It was a Baked Chicken with Portuguese Sauce that left such an impression that I had to bookmark and visit in person. We managed to stop in on a Saturday night, just before closing time at 8:00PM. The place was packed but we were able to get seated with 30 minutes to spare. It's a no frills restaurant with traditional Hong Kong cafe options. Most meals come with soup, veggies, rice, AND dessert! Each dish is not 10/10 crazy good but it will surely leave you satisfied.
