Cafe 48 & Restaurant Intro
Cafe 48 & Restaurant, located at 212-09 48th Ave in Bayside, New York, is a Chinese restaurant that appears to offer a broader range of Asian cuisine beyond traditional Chinese fare, including dishes like Thai noodles and Hainan chicken. Despite its seemingly small storefront, the menu is surprisingly extensive.
Environment: The atmosphere inside Cafe 48 & Restaurant is described as "wonderful." However, the restaurant has limited seating with only a few tables, suggesting it might be better suited for a quick bite or takeaway. Paid street parking is available for customers.
Services: Initial service experiences seem positive, with one customer describing a "very nice lady" providing assistance. However, a subsequent update mentioned "slow" service for a simple Thai noodle dish, indicating potential inconsistencies in service speed depending on the dish ordered or time of day. It's worth noting that one customer experienced unpleasantness due to a small group (possibly employees or owners) smoking in front of the store.
Features: Cafe 48 & Restaurant offers a diverse menu that includes Chinese staples like shrimp fried rice and shrimp dumplings, which one customer found "amazing" with a "unique and different" flavor. They also serve Thai dishes, though one review noted a Thai noodle dish was very salty and caused a tingling sensation. A notable offering is their Hainan chicken, which was described as better than expected, with sauces served on the side allowing customers to control the amount used, though these sauces were also noted to be on the salty side. The portion sizes are reported to be "nice and big," and prices are considered "reasonable."
Promotional Information: Positive aspects highlighted by customers include the amazing and unique taste of the shrimp fried rice and shrimp dumplings, the better-than-expected flavor of the Hainan chicken, reasonable prices, and large portions. The extensive menu is also a selling point, suggesting a wide variety of options to try. However, potential local users should be aware of reports of slow service for certain dishes and the possibility of encountering smoking outside the storefront, which some may find unpleasant. The mixed feedback suggests that while some dishes are highly praised, consistency in service and salt levels in certain items might be areas for consideration.

I got the shrimp fried rice and shrimp dumplings this morning, and it was amazing. The fried rice tasted very unique and different and flavorful the atmosphere is wonderful a very nice lady helped me out. Prices are reasonable. Portions are nice and big. Definitely will be back.
Update: service was slow not sure why only ordered a simple thai noodle dish and it takes very long wait. It's very salty and makes my tong tingle, will not order this again. My friend and I were craving Hainan š so I suggested we give this place a try since it's located half way between us. To both of us the taste of the chicken was better than expected, we didn't have high expectations. The sauces were good but on the salty side, it was good they put in side containers so use at your own discretion. The menu is extensive I am surprised what looks like a small store front can offer such a variety. I am going back to try some of their other offerings. Paid street parking available. Only a few tables but good for a quick bite. The only complaint is a small group of people/employee/owner?/delivery person smoking in front of the store making the experience unpleasant.
I ordered a preserved egg and pork congee along with a fried cruller. They both really good. A bit pricey at over $12 for the two items, but I was really in the mood for it and this place was right around the corner from where I was running my errands. I did see someone else order a sandwich and fries which looked amazing. I might have to try that next time Iām in the area.
Their food is so authentic, and the price is amazing! Curry fish balls and pork skin are so tasty! It brings me back to Hong Kong instantly! Highly recommended!
Small HK style Cafe that serves a bunch of delicious HK food! They have lunch bentos for decent price (around $10 each, comes with soup). Authentic flavors and style for this area. Plenty of parking outside as well.
