About C&M Bistro
Located at 388 9th St STE 181 in Oakland, California, C&M Bistro is a Chinese restaurant that has garnered attention for its particularly affordable and well-received breakfast special, alongside its offerings of BBQ meats. As part of the Chinese Restaurant category, C&M Bistro presents a mixed picture based on the available customer reviews, with high praise for its breakfast and some concerns raised regarding the pricing of its BBQ meats for dine-in versus takeout orders. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of what local users can expect from C&M Bistro based on this feedback.
While specific details about the environment of C&M Bistro are not extensively described, one reviewer's positive experience with the breakfast suggests a comfortable enough setting for a satisfying morning meal. The mention of the thoughtful presentation of the crispy duck in the breakfast, served separately from the noodle soup to maintain its texture and flavor, indicates an attention to detail that might extend to other aspects of the dining environment. However, without more information, a comprehensive description of the ambiance is not possible.
The service at C&M Bistro appears to be efficient and capable of thoughtful touches, as evidenced by the way the breakfast meal is served. The server's consideration for maintaining the quality of the crispy duck suggests a level of care that enhances the dining experience. However, the interaction regarding the pricing of the BBQ meats for dine-in customers indicates a potential area of concern in terms of transparency or explanation. While the customer stated they had no problem paying, the confusion over the difference in portion size for the same price when dining in versus taking out highlights a need for clarity in pricing policies.
A significant feature of C&M Bistro is its remarkably priced breakfast special, offered at $9.50 according to one review. This breakfast is described as "amazing" for its value, including a noodle soup, a choice of meat, and a drink. The specific meat mentioned in the context of the breakfast is duck, which is served separately to ensure the skin remains crispy and the flavor is preserved. This thoughtful presentation is highlighted as an uncommon and positive aspect of the meal, suggesting a commitment to quality even within an affordable price point. This breakfast special is a strong draw for budget-conscious diners looking for a substantial and well-prepared morning meal.
Another key offering at C&M Bistro is its BBQ meats. One reviewer, who tried the breakfast for the first time, expressed optimism that the other BBQ items would also be good based on their positive experience with the duck. This suggests that BBQ is a significant part of the menu and likely a point of interest for many customers. However, a crucial point of caution is raised regarding the pricing and portion sizes of the BBQ meats when dining in compared to ordering for takeout.
According to one detailed review, the menu price for BBQ meats to go is listed at $11.55 per pound. However, the reviewer recounts an experience where ordering the same BBQ meat to eat inside resulted in a small plate that appeared to be around 0.5 pounds but was charged at the same price as a full pound for takeout. When questioned about this discrepancy, the explanation provided was unclear to the customer. This significant difference in the quantity of BBQ meat received for the same price when dining in versus taking out is a critical piece of feedback that potential customers should be aware of. The reviewer explicitly advises caution when ordering BBQ items for dine-in and suggests ordering all BBQ to go to ensure a fair portion relative to the listed price per pound.
This pricing issue with the BBQ meats for dine-in customers could be a point of confusion and potential dissatisfaction for those unaware of this practice. While the reviewer mentioned being willing to pay, the lack of clear explanation for the reduced portion size at the same price for dine-in orders is a concern regarding transparency in pricing. Therefore, local users considering C&M Bistro for its BBQ should be mindful of this feedback and perhaps inquire about the portion sizes and pricing policies for dine-in versus takeout before placing their order.
Despite this issue raised with the BBQ meat pricing for dine-in customers, the positive feedback regarding the breakfast special indicates that C&M Bistro can offer excellent value and quality in at least some of its menu items. The thoughtful preparation of the breakfast, particularly the crispy duck served with the noodle soup, suggests a kitchen that pays attention to detail and aims to deliver flavorful and well-presented food.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available for C&M Bistro in the provided reviews. However, the $9.50 breakfast special itself could be considered a strong promotional offering due to its perceived value and the quality of the meal for the price. Local users looking for an affordable and satisfying breakfast in Oakland might find this special particularly appealing.
In conclusion, C&M Bistro at 388 9th St STE 181 in Oakland offers a noteworthy breakfast special that is praised for its value and the thoughtful preparation of its components, such as the crispy duck noodle soup. For those interested in BBQ meats, the restaurant likely offers a selection, and the initial impression from the breakfast review suggests they could be of good quality. However, potential diners should be aware of a reported discrepancy in the portion size and pricing of BBQ meats when dining in versus ordering for takeout. It is advisable to inquire about these differences before ordering BBQ for consumption on-site. Overall, C&M Bistro presents itself as a Chinese restaurant with a standout breakfast offering and a potentially appealing BBQ menu, but with a need for clarity regarding its dine-in pricing for certain items. Local users seeking a budget-friendly breakfast should definitely consider C&M Bistro, while those interested in BBQ should exercise caution and seek clarification on pricing and portions for dine-in orders.

This is the $9.50 breakfast. The price is amazing. Comes with noodle soup, choice of meat, and drink. They give you the duck separate from the noodle so that it maintains crispy skin and flavor. This is a thoughtful touch that I don’t see often. By this, I think the other bbq would be good. It’s my first time trying this place.
The food is good - but the price on the menu is very confusing for the BBQ meats which will trick you to pay the same price but get half of the product. For example - BBQ meats to go for 11.55 / lb, if your order the same item, they gave you a small plate looks around 0.5 lb but make you pay the same price. When we asked they mumbled - we have no problem paying, but just can’t understand why the same dish will be reduced in half when eating inside. Please be cautious if you are dining in - just order all the BBQ stuff to go. Hope this is helpful.
A very homey eatery, with an actively take out line. Cantonese is being spoken here, adds a little flavor. One girl serves the sit down customers, about seven diners scattered on 3 tables, on a Friday evening. Oakland’s Chinatown is like a ghost town due to crime, according to locals … The service is friendly and quick, food is good: - walnut prawns - good (sweet but I can’t resist; walnuts are really good) - salt pepper fish fillet - batter is thick - salty fish, chicken and tofu clay pot - good They don’t serve liquor. Bathroom is a trip and I won’t let my child going there alone. It’s outside of the restaurant, the same passage to the Mail room, garage and loading bays (?) A few (IF not the only) remaining spots that has a decent crowd, very sad. What a terrible scene and horrible situation for the merchants, and customers.
When we come to Oakland C & M Bistro is one of the places we stop at. They have serve/sell some of my favorite foods like Roasted Pork Belly and BBQ pork so good! The service I am not fan of and I can say that because I have been here more than three times and it’s always the same. There’s always a line, when it’s your turn you gotta have your list ready, and if you don’t they’ll rush you. People tell me it’s the “culture” but I guess I am still not used to it. But I keep coming back because the food is good. The restaurant has a few tables so you can actually sit and eat. The place needs a little TLC but it’s okay by me. The price is ok. I haven’t notice the price go up that much. It’s definitely affordable.
An authentic Hong Kong-style BBQ diner. Mediocre in HK standard, but above average on the East Bay. Their char siu BBQ pork and crispy pork are some of the best in China Town.
