Really authentic Shanghai flavor with affordable price. We ordered the fried horsehair crab with topokki and it is the best I ever had in the US. Highly recommend!!

Be prepared for a classic Chinese restaurant atmosphere – think lots of chatter, happy families, and a constant flow of people. If you happen to be visiting during a Chinatown night market event, expect a wait – this place gets popular! Contrary to the belief that people have regarding service at a Chinese restaurant, we had a pleasant experience. Our server was attentive and friendly. The service was fast despite how busy the restaurant was. Speaking of the menu, be aware that Shanghainese cuisine tends to run a bit sweeter than Cantonese food. This was true for most of our dishes: Xiao Long Bao: These delicate soup dumplings were a highlight. The broth was flavorful, and the pork was juicy, but the dough/wrapper was thick. Spicy Wontons: These weren't spicy at all, but they did pack a little kick. The pork filling was well-seasoned. Fried Small Yellow Fish in Rice Wine Sauce: This dish was a fun, crispy adventure. The tiny fish were cooked whole and had a slightly sweet glaze. It is a good choice for those who enjoy a bit of a fishy flavor. Yang Zhou Fried Rice: This classic dish was surprisingly good and not as oily as we were expecting. It was a good portion size to share between 3 of us. Lion's Head Pork Meatball in Soy Sauce: This hefty dish was a bit on the sweet side, but the pork meatball itself was melt-in-your-mouth tender and light. Hot and sour soup: The soup was sweet and not what we were expecting. It was okay overall.
The place makes me feel like I’m back home in Shanghai and maybe better 🥹 As someone who used to live near Guyi Garden in Shanghai, I can say the soup dumplings are exactly how I like them. The dough isn’t too skin or too soft and has a delightful little chewiness. The pork and crab filling is tender, juicy, and not greasy. There can be a bit more crab yolk but i didn’t expect much across the ocean. I adore the small yellow fish in rice wine sauce. It has become a rare find even in Shanghai comparing with the more common smoked fish. The balance of rice wine and sweet flavor is just right. Pea shoots are perfectly cooked. Pork belly with tofu skin knots tastes good too. Not too salty. Love the atmosphere. So glad to hear Shanghainese!! The aunties are very friendly and welcoming. The food isn’t cheap but it definitely worth it. Hope I have time to visit again for other dishes I crave before leaving for England…
For my money, the most authentic “home-style”Shanghai cuisine I’ve had in the states besides my family’s cooking :) Some items here, I just haven’t seen at other restaurants which specialize in this region’s food. We got the Shanghai stir fry rice cake, shao mai (Shanghai xiu mai, different from the usual Canto dim sum), and one from the special regional menu, egg dumplings in soup. The first two were excellent, and the third was good and earns points for personal nostalgia. There are other hard-to-find items which I’d like to try another time, maybe with parents!
