About Bombay Chopsticks by India House-Chicago

Bombay Chopsticks by India House-Chicago is a unique establishment located at 59 W Grand Ave in downtown Chicago. Categorized as a Chinese restaurant, it offers a distinctive culinary experience by specializing in "Indo-Chinese" cuisine, a fusion of Indian and Chinese flavors and cooking techniques. This restaurant operates under the umbrella of the well-regarded India House-Chicago, known for its traditional Indian dishes, and extends its offerings to include this exciting and flavorful culinary blend.

Based on the limited online reviews available, the environment of Bombay Chopsticks appears to be connected to the ambiance of India House-Chicago. One reviewer who enjoyed the buffet lunch, presumably featuring Indian cuisine, described it as "absolutely delicious" and a "must-have for all foodies." This suggests that the restaurant maintains a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere, likely reflecting the standards of its parent establishment. However, specific details about the décor or layout of the Bombay Chopsticks section are not explicitly mentioned. Given its association with India House, one might expect a comfortable and perhaps elegantly decorated space suitable for both casual and more formal dining.

The services offered by Bombay Chopsticks seem to include both dine-in and potentially takeout options, although this is not explicitly stated in the provided reviews. The positive mention of a "buffet lunch" indicates that this service is available, at least for their Indian offerings, and the reviewer who enjoyed the Indo-Chinese cuisine also dined at the location. It is reasonable to assume that standard restaurant services such as table service for dine-in customers are provided. To confirm whether takeout or delivery services are available for the Indo-Chinese menu, it would be best to contact the restaurant directly.

The primary feature of Bombay Chopsticks is its unique "Indo-Chinese" menu. This culinary style has gained popularity by blending the aromatic spices and vibrant flavors of Indian cuisine with the cooking methods and staple ingredients of Chinese cuisine, such as noodles, stir-fries, and flavorful sauces. One reviewer who tasted the Indo-Chinese dishes described them as being a personal favorite, indicating a positive experience with this fusion cuisine offered at Bombay Chopsticks. This suggests that the restaurant successfully captures the essence of this blended culinary tradition, at least for some of its offerings.

However, another customer had a significantly different experience with specific Indo-Chinese dishes. This reviewer ordered honey chili potatoes, Bombay chopsticks hakka noodles, and chicken manchurian with gravy, and found all three to be disappointing. They described the honey chili potatoes as simply frozen fries with a mediocre sweet chili sauce, the hakka noodles as "super bland" but "okay," and the chicken manchurian as "super bland" and lacking flavor, with the chicken pieces resembling boiled chunks. This customer explicitly stated that they would not recommend coming to Bombay Chopsticks expecting authentic Indo-Chinese cuisine based on their experience.

This stark contrast in reviews highlights the potential variability in the quality and authenticity of the Indo-Chinese dishes at Bombay Chopsticks. While one customer found it to be a favorite place for this cuisine, another was thoroughly disappointed with their order. This suggests that certain dishes might be better executed or more aligned with expectations than others. It is also possible that individual palates and expectations for Indo-Chinese cuisine vary significantly.

Regarding promotional information, the provided text does not contain any specific details about current offers or specials at Bombay Chopsticks. Restaurants often have lunch specials, daily deals, or promotions for certain days of the week or for group dining. Given that a buffet lunch (likely featuring Indian food) was mentioned positively, it is possible that Bombay Chopsticks also offers special pricing or combinations for their Indo-Chinese menu during certain times. To obtain information about any ongoing promotions, it is recommended to contact Bombay Chopsticks directly at (312) 645-9500 or +1 312-645-9500. Their staff would be able to provide the most up-to-date details on any special offers or discounts available.

For local users in Chicago interested in exploring Indo-Chinese cuisine, Bombay Chopsticks by India House-Chicago presents an option in the downtown area. The restaurant benefits from its association with the well-regarded India House, which has received positive feedback for its Indian buffet. However, the reviews specifically regarding the Indo-Chinese menu are mixed. One customer enjoyed it, while another found several dishes to be bland and inauthentic. Potential diners might want to consider these contrasting experiences when deciding whether to try Bombay Chopsticks for their Indo-Chinese cravings.

Given the limited and somewhat contradictory feedback on the Indo-Chinese cuisine, it might be prudent for first-time visitors to inquire about popular dishes or perhaps start with items that have been more positively reviewed elsewhere if possible. The mention of a delicious Indian buffet also suggests that the restaurant excels in traditional Indian cuisine, so those interested in that might find it a worthwhile visit regardless of their interest in the Indo-Chinese offerings.

In conclusion, Bombay Chopsticks by India House-Chicago offers a fusion of Indian and Chinese cuisine in downtown Chicago. While one reviewer praised their Indo-Chinese dishes, another found several items to be bland and disappointing. The restaurant also offers a well-received Indian buffet. Potential customers interested in the Indo-Chinese menu should be aware of the mixed feedback and might consider inquiring about specific dishes before ordering. For those seeking quality Indian food in the area, the positive mention of the buffet suggests a reliable option. To learn about any current promotions or specific menu details for Bombay Chopsticks, contacting the restaurant directly is recommended.

I was happy to discover a nice indian restaurant in downtown chicago, serving “indo chinese”, but my experience was disappointing I ordered - 1. honey chilli potatoes- they were just frozen fries tossed in a mediocre sweet chily sauce 2. Bombay chopsticks hakka noodles- super bland, but okay 3. Chicken manchurian with gravy- super bland and had no flavor at all. The chicken pieces were as if just boiled chicken chunks. I would not come here expecting real indo chinese.
