About Birds Nest

Located at 10605 E Mississippi Ave in Aurora, Colorado, Birds Nest presents a unique approach to Chinese dining as a "Chinese scoop restaurant." This format allows customers to select their desired dishes in scoops, offering a customizable meal experience.

The environment of Birds Nest is that of a local establishment striving to preserve the concept of a Chinese scoop restaurant. While not gourmet, it aims to provide tasty food at a good value. The service is consistently described as friendly, kind, and competent, although the kitchen may sometimes lead to longer wait times, especially during busier periods.

The main feature of Birds Nest is its scoop-style service. For $11.99, customers can choose 3 scoops of various dishes and a side of lo mein, rice, or half and half. The variety of options includes dishes like "kung pao chicken" with a focus on vegetables, and "butter potatoes" (fries). Some dishes, like the salt and pepper shrimp, may have limited quantities per scoop and can occasionally be inconsistent in freshness and saltiness. A notable side option that customers enjoy is the sugar donuts.

Based on customer feedback, the freshness of the food can vary depending on the time of day. It is recommended to visit around lunchtime or early dinner for potentially fresher selections. While one review mentioned slightly lumpy and greasy noodles closer to closing time, overall, the food is considered tasty and satisfying.

Currently, there is no specific promotional information available. However, customers are encouraged to support local businesses like Birds Nest and to tip the hardworking family operating the restaurant. If you're looking for a different kind of Chinese food experience with a variety of choices and friendly service, Birds Nest offers a local option worth considering, especially if you visit during peak hours for potentially fresher offerings and enjoy the scoop buffet style.

I *really* want to like this place: after all, the idea of a Chinese scoop restaurant is beautiful and wonderful and should be preserved! …but it’s kind of a love-hate relationship. Look… for this class of restaurant, I’m not expecting gourmet food. The food shouldn’t have to be complex or healthy or beautiful. What I *am* expecting is relatively fresh food that comes out quickly and is a good price. For $11.99, you get 3 scoops and lo mein (or rice, or half and half). It really depends on what you get for whether it will be piled high or not. Be ware that the dishes like “kung pao chicken” don’t have much chicken, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing—we like vegetables! And this place certainly does too: they will give you lots of “butter potatoes” (fries, basically), but maybe not so much jalepeno chicken. The noodles WERE fresh (but they were also mixed with old noodles that had been sitting out for a while). The salt and pepper shrimp was somewhat stale and DEFINITELY too salty. I was super excited about the s&p and picked it even though you only get 4 per scoop with the combo. The service was friendly! And kind and very competent. Just not extremely fast, limited mainly be the kitchen. I understand that there’s a turn-around associated with fresh food, but waiting for 15 or so minutes when you’re just staring at this buffet line of food, as are the four people who have been waiting even longer than you, wondering why they weren’t prepared for this is just… confusing, man. I recommend supporting businesses like this because they are close to a great deal (certainly they are at least a good deal;)), and the food is tasty, for sure. The family working here obviously works really hard, and I’m happy they’re so close to my home. Just wish I could’ve said I had a better experience this time. Anyway, it did hit the spot:) so thanks, bird’s nest!

I went about 30min before close, the noodles were a bit lumpy, greasy and soft but can't complain since it was about to close. Go around lunch time or early dinner to get the fresher food. Good variety of options and sides like the SUGAR donuts! Those hit the spot! Tip them nice for their hard work to keep these local scoop businesses open. 🫡

I stopped in randomly because they were along my route. It's exactly what I expect a scoop place to be like. The food is good, not a culinary marvel, but great in a pinch. Service is not spectacular but they are helpful and kind. Affordable and generous serving sizes-I don't know why people are complaining about the amount they give. I got all of this food pictured for under $6. I got the Sesame Chicken and the LoMein. Food was hot, tasty, and as expected.

I have been to this facility 4 times. Each time I went in I am greeted with: “We are not ready😅😓” I have since waited til 11AM (30minutes after they open) & still was greeted “we are not ready.” I am not ready to go back there any time soon. But it’s a good place.

Food was hot, fresh and tasted good. It's a good spot for cheap chinease compared to others in the Denver area.
