About Bill's Garden Chinese Gourmet
Welcome to Bill's Garden Chinese Gourmet, a Chinese restaurant located at 4209 S 28th Ave in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As a local Chinese Restaurant, Bill's Garden appears to be a hidden gem, offering delicious and remarkably affordable Chinese cuisine. Based on enthusiastic customer reviews, this establishment stands out for its flavorful food, friendly service, and exceptional value, making it a must-try for local residents and visitors alike. While the ambiance might be described as basic, the quality of the food seems to be the primary draw, creating a loyal following among those who appreciate authentic flavors without a hefty price tag.
The environment at Bill's Garden Chinese Gourmet is described by one reviewer as "stark at best," with a mention of "off-putting odors." This suggests that the restaurant's atmosphere might not be its strongest suit and could be reminiscent of a more traditional, no-frills "small town strip mall" Chinese eatery. For those particularly sensitive to ambiance, the reviewer recommends opting for takeout. However, another customer specifically noted that the restaurant was "clean," indicating that while the décor might be simple, cleanliness is maintained. The contrasting descriptions suggest that the environment might be perceived differently by individuals, but the focus appears to be more on the food itself rather than elaborate surroundings.
The services offered at Bill's Garden include both dine-in and takeout. One reviewer mentioned that they dined inside, indicating that the restaurant does have seating available for customers who wish to eat on-site. The availability of phone numbers, (612) 721-4565 and +1 612-721-4565, clearly indicates that takeout orders are also a significant part of their service. While one reviewer experienced slow service, they also emphasized that the staff were "kind and apologetic" and described them as "great people," suggesting that while there might be occasional delays, the customer service is generally positive and friendly.
Several features make Bill's Garden Chinese Gourmet stand out. The most prominent is the exceptional quality of the food. One reviewer, visiting from Colorado, proclaimed it "the best Chinese food I’ve ever had in the US so far." They specifically praised the cheese wontons for their "thin delicate crispy fry" and creamy filling, the egg flower soup for its "rich broth," and the chicken with broccoli for its "flavorful sauce" and perfectly cooked, slightly crispy broccoli. This enthusiastic review highlights the skill of the chef and the deliciousness of their dishes.
Another standout feature is the incredible affordability of Bill's Garden. A local reviewer was particularly impressed by the prices, stating, "This place is impossibly affordable. Two people can easily split one entree and still have leftovers." This exceptional value makes Bill's Garden an attractive option for budget-conscious diners who do not want to compromise on taste or portion size.
Specific dishes receive high praise in the reviews. The egg foo young is described as a "great" first-time experience, with special mention of the "special stuff" brown gravy. The Szechuan tofu is lauded for its "perfect balance of salty umami with a touch of sweet, and heat that creeps up on you," as well as the perfectly cooked vegetables that retained a "nice crunch." These detailed descriptions indicate that Bill's Garden excels in preparing classic Chinese dishes with notable attention to flavor and texture.
The friendly nature of the staff is also a significant positive aspect. Despite one instance of slow service, the kindness and apologetic demeanor of the staff left a positive impression on the reviewer. This suggests that the customer service at Bill's Garden is genuine and caring, contributing to a pleasant overall experience.
While no specific promotional information is mentioned in the provided reviews, the consistent emphasis on affordability suggests that Bill's Garden already offers excellent value for money. Local Chinese restaurants often have lunch specials or combination deals, and it would be worthwhile for interested customers to inquire directly at (612) 721-4565 or +1 612-721-4565 about any such offers that might be available.
In conclusion, Bill's Garden Chinese Gourmet in Minneapolis, MN, is a hidden gem that offers remarkably delicious and affordable Chinese food. While the ambiance might be simple and perhaps not the main focus, the exceptional quality of dishes like the cheese wontons, egg flower soup, chicken with broccoli, egg foo young, and Szechuan tofu, coupled with the friendly service and incredibly reasonable prices, makes it a standout choice. Local users looking for authentic Chinese flavors without breaking the bank should definitely consider Bill's Garden. Flew in from CO and just experience the best Chinese food I’ve ever had in the US so far. We were in the neighborhood and caught a delicious smell of Chinese food, so we wandered around until we found this place and man, the food was as yummy as it smelled! We had cheese wontons, egg flower soup, and chicken with broccoli. The wontons had a thin delicate crispy fry on them and were filled with cream cheese, the soup had a rich broth - one of the best we’ve tried, and the sauce on the chicken with broccoli was so flavorful and the broccoli was still slightly crispy. Not sure who this chef is, but this will be a must go-to every time we’re in Minneapolis. Nice work guys! Delicious food, friendly staff, clean restaurant, at a great price. Go check them out!
Great spot for that Chinese food from your childhood small town strip mall. The atmosphere is stark at best and be prepared for some off-putting odors. Grab your food to-go if this might bother you. That being said, the food here makes it all worth while. We ordered the egg foo young and the Szechuan tofu. Service was slow, but the staff here are kind and apologetic -great people. The Szechuan sauce was the perfect balance of salty umami with a touch of sweet, and heat that creeps up on you. The veg really was cooked to perfection. Cooked through, but still a nice crunch remaining. This was my first egg foo young experience and it was great. That brown gravy is special stuff. The best part of the experience after the food, is getting the check. This place is impossibly affordable. Two people can easily split one entree and still have leftovers. If you're looking for that old school strip mall hidden gem, this place will tick that box.
a hidden gem in my opinion! my first time trying because my bf n i wanted some takeout, and i give it a solid 9/10! knocked one point off because we live nearby and took the bus to get the food and it was very cold and windy today😂 the guy who took our order was so nice, i decided to do takeout instead of delivery because i didnt want to risk delivery altering the food maybe lol. we got beef fried rice xtra hot , sesame chicken, pork w garlic sauce & wontons! as you can see my bf loved it and i did too it was so delicious, portions were good, and i think it was worth my buck! theres a bakery right across the street you can pick up a sweet treat as well while waiting for your order as we did or just check out the goodies they have next door at the vintage shop! great meal for after cleaning our house on a gloomy sunday :))
Ordered via Uber Eats and was happy with my meal. I got the Vegetables & Tofu which had a sweet and savory brown sauce along with large pieces of fried tofu and veggies (broccoli, carrot, baby corn, mushrooms, snow peas, bok choy) served with a side of white rice. It came in a paper box which was unexpected but the sauce did not leak. It had at least two servings and was quite tasty. Will order again.
Don’t go out of your way. They do not provide silverware it up to you to know this. When ordering a 10 piece wonton they will provide no sweet and sour. If you pay for 2.50 you get a small box not container box of sauce. Spicy anything is bland. If I could give no stars I would.
