Customer reviews for Bend the Bao present somewhat contrasting experiences. One reviewer found the food to be generally "really bad," mentioning that while the chicken bao was better than others, they would neither return nor recommend the establishment. However, this reviewer did note that the person at the counter was "really nice," indicating positive customer service.

In contrast, another reviewer had a much more positive experience. They described the food as "great" and the buns as "super soft." This reviewer tried several varieties, including the shrimp, duck, pork belly, brisket, and crab cake, and stated that all were "very good" and they would eat them again. The shrimp bao was highlighted as "super flavorful," while the brisket and pork belly were noted as similar in flavor and also good. The duck was described as "very tender," and the crab cake as "tasty." This reviewer experienced a short wait of about 10 minutes and found it to be a good option for a quick meal, expressing their intent to return.

Overall, Bend the Bao seems to be a small eatery within Universal CityWalk specializing in bao buns with a variety of fillings. While one review was quite negative regarding the overall food quality, another found several of the bao offerings to be delicious and praised the soft buns. The service received positive comments in both reviews. It might be worth considering for a quick and potentially tasty bao experience if you are in the CityWalk area.

The food was really bad. The chicken bao was better than the other but wouldn’t come back nor recommend. The guy at the counter was really nice though

This is a tiny little shop upstairs in the CityWalk near the Burger King, just above the movie theater. The food was great, the buns were super soft. I had a couple dietary restrictions, so some of the buns ended up being a little bland, but that was my fault. We got the shrimp, the duck, the pork belly, the brisket, and the crab cake. They were all very good. I'd eat all of them again. The shrimp was super flavorful. The brisket and the pork belly were similar in flavor and both were good. The duck was very tender. The crab cake was tasty. We waited maybe 10 minutes. It was good for a quick bite. I'd go again.

Wow, the food was delicious! I regret not trying the dumplings. I ordered this meal to go, after a long day at the park I wanted to try some new and different at our hotel. The pork belly was absolutely delicious, it was uniquely seasoned but soo good, my picky nine-ager even liked it. Duck was surprisingly good, it wasn’t chewy it was tender. Shrimp was also very very good well seasoned and the garnish compliments very well. The steamed bread they used was my favorite it had a hint of sweetness but not over powering or cooked it just compliment and taste very good with different spices and flavors. Also, my daughter has the mango bubble it was good nothing extravagant to brag about like the mini “taco”.

Had 3 bao tacos: shrimp, which was my favorite, has some flavor to it. Brisket, tasted the brisket right out the gate. Not a lot of seasoning or flavor to the meat itself but like the complimentary toppings though. Duck, had some flavor to it and a little kick but nothing over the top, didn't actually taste the duck as much. Overall, I liked this unique fusion experience.

Literally go every time in universal, kimchi is the favorite but the pork belly has more flavor. Must try it all if possible. Also u get to see them make it thru the glass window where bar seating is available.
