About Beijing Cafe

Beijing Cafe is a Chinese restaurant located at 728 Commonwealth Ave in Boston, MA. They can be contacted at (617) 859-3925 or +1 617-859-3925.

Recent customer reviews indicate significant concerns regarding the food quality at Beijing Cafe. Multiple reviewers described the dim sum items, including durian dessert and fried dough, as being reheated from frozen supermarket packages and not properly heated. One reviewer found the quality to be so poor that they "laughed off the situation."

Another customer expressed strong dissatisfaction with the dandan noodles, stating that what they were served—boiled noodles with sesame paste, soy sauce, pickles, and cilantro—was not remotely close to the authentic dish and deemed it an insult to their intelligence. They urged the owner to reconsider the food being served, questioning if they themselves would eat reheated frozen supermarket food and expect to profit from it.

A long-time patron of over 40 years shared a stark contrast between past and present experiences. They recalled a time when the food quality and menu, particularly the shrimp and broccoli with fried rice, remained consistent and enjoyable. However, they noted drastic negative changes, including a shift to online ordering with no opportunity for customization (like spice level), the absence of pot tea, and a significant decline in food quality. The broccoli in their usual dish had been replaced with peppers, and the fried rice was tasteless. They also mentioned a change in the restaurant's physical environment, with the removal of an outer door leading to a cold dining area. This long-time customer stated they would not return unless there is a change in ownership and a return to the previous menu and service style, also observing a significant decrease in the restaurant's popularity and seating availability.

In summary, recent feedback suggests that Beijing Cafe is facing serious issues with food quality, with concerns raised about the use of reheated frozen food and the authenticity of dishes. The dining experience has also reportedly changed negatively with the implementation of online ordering and alterations to the restaurant's ambiance. Long-term customers have expressed disappointment with the current state of the establishment. Potential diners should be aware of these recent criticisms.

The food is... bad. Nearly all dimsum items, including this durian dessert and fried dough, were reheated from frozen packages like you buy from the supermarket. And then they didn't really reheat it right. It was just so bad that we laughed off the situation. The dandan noodle was not remotely close either. We were served with boiled noodle with sesame paste, soy sauce, some pickles and cilantro. Please don't insult our intelligence with whatever this is. If you're the owner, look at the picture. This is what the customers are being served. Would you eat that? You can't possibly let us eat the reheated frozen food from the supermarket, and then expect to make a profit right? A good business starts from not thinking the customer is stupid.

I have been eating at Beijing for more than 40 years. During that time, I believe the establishment has changed ownership once or twice, but the menu and quality of food remained much the same. I always order shrimp and broccoli, which came with fried rice. It was a great lunch, very tasty and filling. Things have changed drastically and not for the better. You now order online and food is brought to you. You can't ask anyone any questions, such as please make my dish medium spicy. There is no longer a pot tea available for the table. The establishment used to have an outer door, so that the inside stayed moderately warm. That outer door no longer exists and even though our table was far away from the door, our entire party kept their coats on and our food chilled quickly. Most exasperating was the food, which has gone way downhill. I could not order shrimp and broccoli, the broccoli has been replaced with peppers and the fried rice was tasteless. I won't be going back until the ownership changes and they bring back waitstaff and a menu resembling what was served for more than 40 years. During that time the dinning area was full and you had to get there early to find a seat. There's no issue with finding seating now... I wonder why that is?

The food was edible, the decor was basic, the service wasn’t the greatest. We went to eat somewhere else but it was closed at 3 so we ended up here. We were the only ones. The waitress brought our menus right away and gave us time to review. She brought us room temperature water and sat on her phone. She came and took our order. The meals were made from scratch. I had veggie noodles and my daughter had dumplings. The veggies were bok choy, carrots, sweet peppers, scallions and onions. It was a little salty. We were hungry so we ate it. An older woman brought out our meals. She smiled. That was the warmest part of the customer service. We didn’t wait for our bill, we went to counter to pay and left. We were thanked as we walked out the door.

It's not gourmet, but it's simple home style Chinese cooking, served piping hot. I dropped by and ordered Mapo Tofu, and it came out in just a few minutes. It was freshly cooked, piping hot, full of flavor, and really just hit the spot. For a quick meal, if you're not looking for anything too fancy, it's a good spot.

$20 noodle in lamb soup with little lamb and a $4.5 pork bun with little pork. Not worthwhile at all. The waiter is ignorant to my feedback.
