About Baodega 小杨生煎

Welcome to Baodega 小杨生煎, a Chinese restaurant located at 7 W 20th St in New York City. As a part of the Chinese Restaurant category, Baodega 小杨生煎 offers a diverse menu for those seeking Chinese cuisine.

Customer experiences at Baodega 小杨生煎 appear to be varied. One reviewer expressed great satisfaction with their meal, specifically enjoying the shrimp and pork shumai and the fried soup dumplings, stating they were exactly what they desired. They also found the staff friendly and helpful and appreciated the surprisingly spacious seating area despite the restaurant's seemingly small exterior. This customer was eager to try more dishes and recommended visiting Baodega 小杨生煎.

However, another customer had a significantly less positive experience, describing the soup dumplings as "the most awful" with a thick dough, dry meat, and no juice. This reviewer also found the Yang Chow fried rice to be excessively drenched in soy sauce and the sautéed string beans to be a small portion and overly salty.

The contrasting reviews suggest that while some customers have had enjoyable experiences with certain dishes and appreciated the service and environment, others have found significant shortcomings in the quality of specific menu items.

If you are in the area and considering Baodega 小杨生煎, you may want to take these differing opinions into account. You can contact the restaurant at (212) 462-0007 or +1 212-462-0007 for more information about their menu and offerings.

I really enjoyed my food here. I had the shrimp and pork shumai and the fried soup dumplings. They were exactly what I wanted. The staff here is friendly and helpful. I really like the space and how much seating there is even though it seems small from the outside. There are so many things I want to try on the menu, but honestly I will probably get what I had since it was so good. I recommend coming here! Also love the name!

REPLY to owner’s comment for specific feedback - Have you tried those three specific dishes yourself? The specific shortcomings are stated below. Not sure how much more specific to get into. The moat awful soup dumplings, even worse than the divvy Chinese takeout places. Dough - thick. Meat - dry. Juice - none. The yang chow fries rice was dripped in soy sauce. Yuck. The sautéed string beans was so small in portion and salty.

The service is great but not busy either. Food was good mostly. Peking duck was amazing and get lots of duck. 10/10. The pork bun looked like it was lacking but taste was great. 8/10. The crab roe pork soup dumpling was 3/10. Taste wasn't great. Pork was hard. No soup. No ginger in the sauce. No hot oil.

Started our meal with the Steamed shrimp crystal Dumplings which were tasty. The Hot pot pickled cabbage fish had a lovely garlic flavour it came out with the flame on and the dish was steaming till the end of our meal. The Hot pot fish was spicy and garlicky, very tasty and the fish was well cooked.

I apologize in advance as my photo doesn’t do the restaurant justice…but I scarfed down half the meal before realizing that the food was so delicious I should leave a five star Google review. I’ve come a few times and the service is friendly, attentive, and fast. There are also always customers speaking Chinese which, if you don’t know, means it’s a good Chinese restaurant because actual Chinese people eat there. Pork soup dumplings and the spicy fish hot pot are a must. A really generous portion of pork and fish in each.
