Based on recent customer reviews, BaoBao: Dim Sum & Chinese Cuisine offers a memorable dining experience characterized by a unique ambiance, generally well-received food, and commendable service. One reviewer particularly enjoyed the atmosphere, highlighting the inclusion of 90s music and the availability of hot tea as positive aspects. They found the dumplings to be good and the beef stir fry to be delicious. However, they noted that another noodle dish was bland and that a crawfish dish was overpriced for the portion size received. Despite these mixed opinions on specific dishes, they concluded that BaoBao is a decent option, especially for those craving dim sum.

Another reviewer, who stumbled upon BaoBao in a busy area near Discovery Place, described it as a "cool spot." They were pleasantly surprised to find a dim sum restaurant and reported that overall, the dim sum offerings were "pretty good." This positive experience left them with a "decent experience" and the inclination to return when in the area. However, this reviewer expressed significant disappointment with the soup dumplings. They noted a "very cool chalk mural" explaining the process of enjoying soup dumplings, which involves drinking the soup first. Unfortunately, every soup dumpling they were served was empty, preventing them from experiencing this intended way of eating. Despite this major letdown regarding a dish they "LOVE," the reviewer chose not to deduct a star from their rating. This decision was based on the fact that the flavors of all the other dishes they tried were "pretty authentic," which they considered rare for the greater Charlotte area. They were confident that their server would have replaced the soup dumplings had they mentioned it, but they chose not to. On a positive note, this reviewer praised the "great" service and described the restaurant as "beautiful," indicating a pleasant and well-designed environment.

From these reviews, several key aspects of BaoBao: Dim Sum & Chinese Cuisine emerge. The restaurant offers a distinct atmosphere, with one reviewer specifically mentioning the 90s music, which could be a unique draw for those nostalgic for that era. The availability of hot tea is also noted as a positive element of the dining experience. BaoBao's menu focuses on both dim sum and Chinese cuisine, suggesting a broad range of options for different preferences. While some dishes, like the beef stir fry, receive high praise ("delicious"), others, such as a particular noodle dish and the crawfish, have been met with less enthusiasm due to blandness or perceived poor value. The dim sum, in general, seems to be a strong point, with one reviewer finding it "pretty good" and another specifically seeking out the restaurant for its dim sum offerings.

A notable feature, as highlighted by one reviewer, is the effort put into explaining the proper way to eat soup dumplings, indicated by the "very cool chalk mural." This suggests that BaoBao pays attention to the details of the dishes they serve and aims to educate their customers on the intended culinary experience. The significant disappointment with receiving empty soup dumplings, however, indicates a potential inconsistency in the preparation or quality control of this particular item. Despite this, the reviewer's emphasis on the authentic flavors of the other dishes suggests a commitment to providing genuine Chinese tastes, which is considered a rarity in the Charlotte area.

The service at BaoBao appears to be a strong point, with one reviewer describing it as "great" and another noting the "fast friendly service" during a previous visit. This suggests that the staff is attentive and contributes positively to the overall dining experience. The restaurant's environment is also positively mentioned, with one reviewer describing it as "beautiful" and another noting a "nice ambiance" and a "cool spot" in a busy area. This indicates that BaoBao offers a visually appealing and comfortable setting for its customers.

Based on the available reviews, BaoBao: Dim Sum & Chinese Cuisine offers a unique combination of dim sum and Chinese dishes in a distinctive and pleasant environment with good service. The 90s music adds a nostalgic touch to the atmosphere. While the quality and value of individual dishes may vary, the overall consensus points to authentic flavors, particularly in their dim sum offerings. The issue with the empty soup dumplings, while a significant disappointment for one reviewer, did not overshadow the positive aspects of their experience. For local users in Huntersville and the greater Charlotte area seeking a dim sum experience or authentic Chinese cuisine in a restaurant with a unique vibe and friendly service, BaoBao is definitely worth considering.

Love the atmosphere, 90s music, and the hot tea. The dumplings were good and the beef stir fry was delicious. The other noodle dish was bland. Crawfish dish was over price for the portion we got. It’s decent if you want some dimsun

This was cool spot just randomly sitting in a pretty nice busy area. I was not expecting to find a dim sum spot out of all restaurants when I visited Discovery Place out here. Overall, everything on their dim sum was pretty good. I left with a decent experience and will probably be back when I’m in the area. BUT - and this is just a heads up to the owners - I was very disappointed in the soup dumplings. They have a very cool chalk mural explaining the whole process of the soup dumplings and explained how you eat it by first drinking the soup first… only, every piece that was brought out to me was empty. Never even got to try the whole experience. I LOVE soup dumplings so again, disappointed was an understatement. Regardless, I won’t even diminish a star from my review because the flavors from all the dishes were pretty authentic, and for the Charlotte greater area, that is rare! I’m confident the server would have switched it out but again, I didn’t bother. On that note, service was great and the restaurant is beautiful!

I had takeout and was excited to see the place because I am always at Northcross. Very disappointing. It’s extremely overpriced for the amount of food and the quality you get. I paid $20 for 8 pieces of fried shrimp with some pineapple. And then to charge $2.50 for white rice!! Get out of here. My potstickers were freezing cold and the sauce they serve with it has so much vinegar we ended up breaking out the Banchans. Not worth $11 for 6 potstickers. The girl working the register was really nice, but when she left someone kept being in takeout orders up and didnt ask if they went to anyone so there were 5+ people standing around and food just sitting. Go somewhere else, not worth it at all.

We went at 11:00 AM on a Saturday for lunch, and the place was empty. Don't know why. Too early? My first glance at the menu gave me the impression that it was a bit pricey. However, further review of the menu changed my mind. The menu selections, including the dim sum, reflected a better, more traditional Chinese restaurant like we enjoyed when we lived in San Francisco. (I base my views on advice from my 3 Chinese born employees.) Not the usual Americanized Chinese strip mall restaurant you often find. Spring rolls were excellent. I had Beef Lo Mein, beef was tender, portion was large. I was not disappointed. Same for my guest who had Chicken Lo Mein. I usually won't give 5 stars to a restaurant at which I have only eaten at once, but I am making an exception here. I'm glad there is an option like BoaBao in an area that is shy of variety.

Food and service were excellent. Cheryl was working behind the bar, we were there early in the evening, so not too busy. She was attentive without hovering, always appreciated. Soup dumplings and pan-fried buns were a great start. Mongolian beef and walnut shrimp were delicious and plentiful entrees. Good flavors in the chili oil, definitely ask for that.
