About Bao Dumplings & Bao Tea 寶餃寶茶
Bao Dumplings & Bao Tea 寶餃寶茶, located at 700 Blvd, Kenilworth, NJ 07033, USA, is a restaurant specializing in authentic northern Chinese cuisine, particularly known for its dumplings and noodles. While the platform categorizes it as a Chinese Restaurant, it operates more like a cafe with a focus on freshly prepared dishes.
According to one reviewer from Beijing, China, the food at Bao Dumplings & Bao Tea is exceptionally authentic, even surpassing the taste of many local restaurants in Beijing. The dumplings are made to order with fresh dough and meat, filled with juice upon serving. The noodles are described as very chewy and smooth. This suggests a high level of food quality and authenticity.
The service is also highlighted as great. The staff is attentive, serving food, cleaning tables, and proactively providing containers for leftovers without being asked. This indicates a customer-focused approach.
However, the atmosphere of the Kenilworth store is described as small and more akin to a takeout restaurant, leading to a lower rating for the ambiance by one reviewer. The use of disposable plastic plates was also mentioned as a minor drawback, as the reviewer felt the high-quality food deserved better dinnerware.
Another reviewer specifically tried the soup dumplings and noodles. While they found the flavor of the soup dumplings to be good, they noted that some lacked soup and the skin was thicker than their preference. The way the dumplings were packaged for takeout caused some to stick and lose their soup. The braised beef noodle soup was praised for its flavorful broth, but the reviewer was disappointed by the high proportion of fat to beef, considering the price. They also noted limited alternative milk options (only coconut milk) for their bubble tea.
In summary, Bao Dumplings & Bao Tea 寶餃寶茶 offers authentic northern Chinese food, particularly praised for its made-to-order dumplings and chewy noodles. The service is generally excellent. The atmosphere of the Kenilworth location is small and more suited for takeout, and there are some mixed reviews regarding specific dishes like soup dumplings and braised beef noodle soup. Limited alternative milk options are available for beverages. No specific promotional information was available in the provided reviews. This restaurant is a hidden gem. Super authentic northern Chinese food; dumplings are made to order, the filling is full of juice when served. Really fresh dough and meat. The noodles are very chewy and smooth. I am from Beijing, China and I think their taste is even better than most of the local restaurants in Beijing. Price is reasonable. My only wish is that I feel such great quality food deserve better dinnerware than just one time plastic plates. The Kenilworth store is small and feels more like a take out restaurant which is why I only gave 3 star for atmosphere. But that does not impact the food quality. Service is great. The waiter serves you food, cleans the table, and bring you the containers for packing left over without you even asking. Overall strongly recommend; you will not regret to have dined there.
Wanted to try this place out since it said it made their own soup dumplings and noodles. The soup dumplings flavor was good but 3 out of 6 soup dumplings didn’t have soup in them. They were also kind of thicker then I’m used to. They put the the steam paper into the take out container and so the dumplings got suck to them so I lost most of the soup. The braised beef noodle soup has a very flavorful soup. I received mostly fat then beef so that was very disappointing. For $14 I expected to get a lot of beef but that isn’t the case. I was going to order their bubble tea but they only offer coconut milk as a alternative milk so I didn’t order it.
There was a sign that said food would be a 20 minute wait but it ended up being over an hour. The staff was clearly under a lot of stress and unorganized in getting orders ready. My wife and I ordered bubble tea, soup dumplings, and pork buns. Our tea sat on the counter for about 10 minutes before anyone realized they were ready to be given to customers ourselves and others included. Following a 20 minute wait we were given our tea which was by this point a little watered down we were told it would be another 20 minutes for our food. The tea was thankfully still good but I ordered it with mango jelly and was given mango popping bubbles instead, when I asked if it was in error they told me those were the jelly’s. We left and came back after around 40 minutes and the food was still not done. Eventually our food was given to us, the soup dumplings were stuck to each other and ripped when trying to grab them as well as lukewarm. The pork buns were raw and immediately thrown away. After an hour of wait for bland dumpling and very raw pork, I wish I could ask for a refund. Truly a terrible experience, if you're in the area, go to Big Apple Pizza, they are right next door and cook their food, are delicious and have short waiting times.
I ordered from this restaurant bao dumplings and bao tea, and I absolutely loved all these four dishes. The braised beef noodle soup and the beef chow mein were exceptionally tasty. The dumplings also have great flavor! I highly recommend visiting this restaurant. P.S. the customer service was great
Very attentive staff, food tasted fresh and delicious. Ordered for three people had orange chicken was crispy and saucy but not overwhelmingly sweet. Shrimp and broccoli with fried rice which was well loaded with veggies and fluffy eggs. Sample platter with dumplings which were fried nicely, bitesized dumplings. Nice size portions overall, also had some great strawberry and mango bobba tea and a passion fruit bao. Came in cute panda cups that are reusable. Definetly will be back.
