About Baba Sushi

Located at 309 Park Ave in Worcester, MA, Baba Sushi operates as a restaurant offering Japanese cuisine, primarily focusing on sushi. While the platform categorizes it as a Chinese Restaurant, its offerings and customer reviews clearly indicate a Japanese specialty.

Customers have consistently praised the service at Baba Sushi, with one reviewer specifically highlighting their waiter Johnson for his friendliness, attentiveness, and hospitality, which significantly enhanced their dining experience.

A standout item on their specialty menu is the seared or torched scallops with a special sauce. This dish, featuring four decent-sized and fresh scallops with excellent texture, has been enthusiastically recommended by a reviewer who stated they would return solely for this. Another specialty, the beef tataki, received a more mixed review. While the beef was cooked nicely to medium rare, the reviewer found the slices too thin and the wasabi mustard-like sauce just okay, preferring a more traditional ponzu soy-based dipping sauce.

The "Sushi for two" option was described as plentiful, with the albacore, salmon, and dragon rolls with shrimp tempura being particularly enjoyable. Overall, the food was noted for its freshness and sweetness. The rice preparation was almost perfect, although one reviewer suggested it could have been improved with a bit more sushi rice vinegar.

A point of criticism was the Ikura (salmon roe), which was not marinated in soy and sake, resulting in a fishier taste that one reviewer did not prefer.

The atmosphere in the back room was described as cozy and warm due to ceiling heating. One reviewer suggested that early dining might be preferable due to the high volume of takeout orders.

In contrast to the positive recent reviews, one past customer described Baba Sushi as having declined from being a "cool place" to "very very average." This reviewer also recounted an instance of perceived "stuck up" behavior regarding reservations when the bar appeared not busy. They suggested that the restaurant might be better suited to a location outside of Worcester and indicated they would not return.

Overall, Baba Sushi seems to offer a dining experience with excellent service and fresh sushi, with the seared scallops being a highly recommended specialty. However, opinions on other dishes and past experiences vary, and potential customers might want to consider the mixed feedback.

Excellent service from our waiter Johnson! He made the night extra pleasant becoz of his friendliness, attentiveness and hospitality. The specialty menu: Seared/ torched scallops with special sauce!!! The order came with four decent sized scallops! The texture and freshness of them blew me away!!! Would just come back for this!!! Must get if you see them on the menu!! Beef tataki- they were a bit too thin sliced to my liking. Wasabi mustard ish sauce was ok. I would prefer beef tataki to be served more like a refreshing ponzu soy based kind of dipping! This appetizer was just a B. Though the beef was nicely done medium rare!!! Sushi for two was plentiful! Love the albacore, salmon and dragon rolls with shrimp temp stood out the most. Everything was fresh and sweet! Delicious meal! Rice was done almost perfectly... could have been more balanced with a bit more sushi rice vinegar though! The only complaint was the Ikura! They didn't marinate them with soy and sake! The roes were a bit too fishy for my preference. Overall, the service was outstanding! The cozy vibe in that extra back room was nice! Heating from the ceilings made the room super warm! Would definitely come back for more sushi! Early dining definitely would be better since they have tons of take out orders.

Used to be the cool place back in the day. Hole in the wall spot, now they are very very average. Also walked in once open bar not that busy they were like no we only take reservations. Stuck up. There are plenty of better spots in Worcester. They should keep that location in sturbridge since people out there need something but other than that charity operation give it up leave. Bye bye 👋

Food and service was top tier. The California rolls were the best I ever had. I also enjoyed the ginger crusted chicken. They are really generous with the portion sizes. Will return again sometime.

Always a solid choice for sushi! Fairly priced for the quality and is super fresh with both classic and creative combos. Pro tip: leave room for dessert and get the key lime cheesecake AND the coconut ice cream. Match made in heaven.
