As a Chinese restaurant in Sammamish, August Moon offers a menu that includes popular dishes such as Mongolian Beef, egg foo young, and chow fun, as highlighted in recent customer reviews. One enthusiastic local customer described the food as "traditional Chinese restaurant food cooked to the expectation and beyond," specifically praising the Mongolian Beef as "savory juicy and delicious." This reviewer also noted that August Moon might be the only Chinese restaurant in Sammamish with some traditionally well-cooked and delicious dishes.
This positive review also hints at upcoming changes, mentioning that August Moon is "coming out with new cuisine and a new vibe" in 2025, which customers are anticipated to approve and love. This suggests that the restaurant is looking to evolve and potentially expand its offerings and atmosphere in the near future. The reviewer gives August Moon a 5-star rating, highlighting select dishes as expertly cooked and appreciating the welcoming and attentive service. They also mentioned the possibility of trying an "amazing chef special" that is on and off the menu, as well as happy hour specials.
The positive feedback also shines a light on the staff, with specific mentions of Sunny, who is described as beautiful and making the dining experience a joy, and Vincent, the owner-manager, who is lauded as a superb host and very attentive manager. The reviewer also suggests that those who enjoy egg foo young will relish the restaurant's version with a "gravy smooth as satin," and that their chow fun is a reason for repeat visits. This paints a picture of a neighborhood restaurant with friendly staff and some standout dishes.
However, another customer shared a significantly negative experience, particularly concerning the Mongolian Beef. This reviewer, who dislikes the taste of fish, reported that the Mongolian Beef had a sour/fishy taste on two separate occasions, the second time being so strong that it was inedible. They expressed disappointment at finding seafood flavor in a beef dish, something they had never encountered in 40 years of eating Mongolian Beef. Additionally, they noted the presence of two distinctly different types of meat in the dish, which they found strange.
This negative review also raised concerns about portion sizes, stating that three out of four dishes had very small portions despite higher prices, and that no white rice was included with the order. Furthermore, for a $90 takeout order, only one small container of soy sauce was provided. The reviewer also detailed several issues with the ordering and payment process. They mentioned that the order-out menus were more expensive than the dine-in menus, a 3% convenience fee was added, and the online ordering automatically included a 15% tip that had to be manually removed, ultimately preventing online payment. The customer had to call in to pay, incurring the "order out" price and "convenience fee." Subsequently, they received a call back from August Moon asking for a tip, which the reviewer found audacious for a takeout order.
The stark contrast between these two reviews indicates a potential inconsistency in the food quality and customer experience at August Moon Chinese Restaurant. While one local customer has had consistently positive experiences with certain dishes and the service, another encountered significant issues with food quality, portion sizes, pricing transparency, and billing practices.
Regarding the environment, the positive review refers to August Moon as a "neighborhood restaurant" and a "family restaurant," suggesting a local and perhaps family-run establishment. The mention of Sunny and Vincent by name also supports this idea of a more personal, neighborhood feel. However, the negative review does not provide any insights into the physical environment of the restaurant, as their experience was with a takeout order.
In terms of services, August Moon offers both dine-in and takeout options. The positive review highlights friendly and attentive waitstaff and a superb host in the owner-manager, Vincent. They also mention happy hour specials. However, the negative review details a problematic takeout ordering and payment process, including price discrepancies between dine-in and takeout menus, added fees, and an unusual request for a tip on a takeout order.
Features of August Moon appear to include traditional Chinese dishes, with specific mentions of well-cooked Mongolian Beef, egg foo young with smooth gravy, and chow fun. There is also the anticipation of new cuisine and a new vibe in 2025, suggesting a willingness to evolve. The potential for off-menu chef specials and happy hour are also notable features. However, the issue with fishy-tasting beef reported by one customer is a significant concern regarding food quality control.
Promotional information is limited to the mention of happy hour specials and the upcoming new cuisine and vibe in 2025. Local users would need to inquire directly with the restaurant for details on happy hour times and offerings, as well as any other current promotions.
For local users in Sammamish looking for a Chinese restaurant, August Moon presents a complex picture. While one long-time customer speaks highly of the food and service, another recent experience raises serious concerns about food quality, pricing, and customer service related to takeout orders. Potential diners might want to consider these contrasting viewpoints and perhaps inquire about the preparation of specific dishes, especially if they have dietary restrictions or preferences. The positive mentions of certain dishes like egg foo young and chow fun might also be of interest.
Given the strong positive endorsement from a local happy customer and the significant issues reported by another, it might be wise for new customers to try a dine-in experience to assess the food and service firsthand, and to clarify any questions about pricing and fees before ordering takeout. The anticipation of new developments in 2025 could also make August Moon a restaurant to watch.
In conclusion, August Moon Chinese Restaurant in Sammamish offers traditional Chinese cuisine with potential for new offerings. While it has a loyal local following who appreciate the food and service, recent negative feedback regarding food quality, pricing transparency for takeout, and billing practices should also be considered by prospective customers. Local users are encouraged to weigh these perspectives and perhaps try the restaurant to form their own opinion.

Customer Reviews
First of all I absolutely hate the taste of fish. That’s why I order beef! Mongolian Beef. Last time we ate here, the beef had a sour/fishy taste. I didn’t say anything because I thought the chef made an innocent mistake. But I love Mongolian beef so I ordered it again tonight. It was so fishy I couldn’t eat any of it. I ordered BEEF not FISH. In 40 years of eating Mongolian beef, I’ve never experienced red meat flavored with seafood sauce. Really disappointing. Also strange was the dish contained 2 distinctly different types of meat. What’s that all about?!?! Portions were very small for 3 of 4 dishes despite the higher price. No white rice included. And for $90, they included ONE small container of soy sauce. But here’s the kicker: The order-out menus is more expensive than the dine in menu. They also tacked on a 3% convenience fee. AND the online ordering automatically added a 15% tip. My husband had to manually remove the tip. So we were UNABLE to pay online. My husband had to call in to pay. He paid the “order out” price and “convenience fee.” Then we got a surprise call back from August Moon. They actually ASKED for a tip. So, in short, fishy food, jacked up prices for small portions, added convenience fees and the audacity to call us back and ask for a tip. It’s take out!

Our visit today was exceptional. The staff members assisting us were both attentive and knowledgeable regarding our sons' food allergies, going above and beyond to enhance our experience. I came across a comment expressing dissatisfaction with the egg flower soup. However, after trying it myself, I found the flavors to be quite satisfying!
From old to new owners, this is our go to neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Even during COVID, they were the only ones who’s home delivery of cooked dishes came like it was served at the table. Tonight’s was no different, the sesame chicken was crisp and sizzling and each dish hot and tasty. Ordering has been easy with polite and courteous customer service and delivery came sooner than anticipated. We love to order the sesame chicken, cashew chicken, combo fried rice, chow mein, and hot n spicy soup plus the cream cheese wontons. But have always loved many options from their menu. Highly recommend!
This place was amazing. The lady that served us was so hospitable and friendly. She made sure we were well taken care of and we had so much extra food! By far one of the best restaurants we have ever been to not because of only the service and atmosphere, but the food was delicious as well! We arrived about 45 minutes before they closed and were the only people in the restaurants, but still treated us so kindly and joked around with us. Highly recommend!
