Astoria Dumpling

Incredible dumplings, super nice staff! New management focused just on dumplings with sweet drinks. Astoria’s best dumplings.

These are not traditional dumplings by any extent or standard, spent $70 and threw out more than half our food. They sauce the dumplings like chicken tenders, we were under the impression the sauces and flavors would be inside the dumpling but they’re just lathered generic frozen dumplings.

This small dumpling & noodle shop opened earlier this month. Surprisingly, it’s been hard to find much info online about it. They don’t have their hours or phone number listed anywhere. So, I’m not even sure you can order delivery. I messaged them on Instagram to inquire about their hours but did not get a reply. I was super curious and wanted to check them out, so I took a chance and visited yesterday. Luckily, they were open. The restaurant is quite small and occupies the space formerly held by Papa Don. There’s one small café table inside and two outside. Otherwise, it’s mainly a takeout business. They have a small menu which consists of Dumplings (3 sizes and 4 choices of protein), Noodles (3 options) and Drinks (4 options). I ordered the “Most Popular” ($11.98) which has 10 Dumplings in your choice of 2 flavors and 3 dipping sauces. Honestly, had trouble deciding which to choose from the 12 dipping sauces they offered but ended up with Sweet Soy, Ginger Scallion, and Sesame. And I ordered the dumplings in Classic Pork and Beijing Beef flavor. The dumplings were very tasty, although I didn’t taste much difference in the pork and beef flavors. So much so that I’m wondering if they mistakenly just gave me all pork dumplings. The dumpling skin was very thin and fried perfectly. It was crispy and light. The sauces were also very good. I enjoyed both the Sweet Soy and Ginger Scallion but not so much the Sesame dipping sauce. I just think the Sesame dipping sauce would have paired better with some other flavored dumplings. I also tried their Lychee Refresher Green Tea ($7.35). All of the drinks come in one size, and I wasn’t asked for sugar or ice preference so I’m guessing they are all made the same way. Nevertheless, I thought the drink was really great. It wasn’t too sweet, Lychee jelly was perfect, and the drink had a nice hint of the green tea flavor. Overall, it was a pretty good first visit and will definitely go again to try their noodles. I just wished they had a phone number and their hours listed so that it’s not such a guessing game.

Gaby and Hope went above and beyond to make sure I felt early welcomed at Astoria Dumpling, and the truffle farm dumplings were so savory and satisfying.

Delicious high quality noodles and dumplings for the right price and location. Noodles definitely felt fresh and handmade quality. Their sauces were flavorful, loved both dan dan and garlic noodles. The service was pretty quick too. It’s a take out place, but guy behind the counter was friendly and welcoming, which is a rare in NYC.
