About Asian Jewels

Located at 133-30 39th Ave in Flushing, New York, Asian Jewels, also known as 敦城海鲜酒楼 (Dun Cheng Seafood Restaurant), stands as a prominent establishment within the Chinese Restaurant category, specializing in traditional Cantonese dim sum. Based on customer reviews, Asian Jewels offers a nostalgic and bustling dim sum experience, characterized by the classic feature of food carts roaming between tables. This sets it apart from many modern dim sum spots that have moved away from this traditional service style. With a reputation for fast service, reasonable prices, and a large, lively atmosphere, Asian Jewels caters to a diverse clientele seeking an authentic and efficient dim sum experience.

One of the most distinctive features of Asian Jewels is its commitment to the traditional dim sum hall experience, complete with food carts circulating throughout the dining area. This "cart-pushing vibe" is explicitly mentioned by multiple reviewers as a significant draw, evoking a sense of nostalgia for those familiar with older-style dim sum service. The presence of these carts allows for a quick and interactive dining experience, as customers can directly select dishes that catch their eye as they pass by, leading to an almost instantaneous arrival of food at the table. This fast-paced environment contributes to the overall lively and sometimes loud atmosphere of the restaurant.

Customers have reported efficient service at Asian Jewels. One reviewer who visited on a packed weekend morning was seated instantly, and within minutes, food was on their table. This speed of service is a notable aspect, especially during busy periods, suggesting that the restaurant is well-equipped to handle a high volume of customers without significant delays. The service is described as "no frills," indicating a focus on efficiency and getting the food to the diners promptly, rather than elaborate or overly formal interactions.

The food at Asian Jewels, while described by one reviewer as "solid" and "very true to the old-school experience" rather than "mind-blowing," still receives positive feedback for its quality and authenticity. Staples of dim sum, such as shumai (pork dumplings), chicken feet, congee (rice porridge), fish balls, shrimp dumplings (har gow), and milk buns, were sampled and found to be consistently good. This suggests that Asian Jewels delivers on the classic Cantonese dim sum dishes that patrons expect. Another reviewer, who had heard great things about the place, found their experience to be exceptional, even considering their potential bias towards their usual favorite dishes. They stated that the three dishes they tried were the "best I’ve ever had," further emphasizing the quality of the food, at least for certain popular items.

The environment of Asian Jewels is described as "huge and hectic," but this bustling atmosphere is considered "part of the charm" by one reviewer. The large space likely accommodates a significant number of tables, contributing to the lively and sometimes noisy ambiance that is characteristic of traditional dim sum halls. This energetic environment adds to the overall experience of a classic, bustling Cantonese eatery. While it might not be the place for a quiet, leisurely meal, it offers an authentic and vibrant setting for enjoying dim sum.

Price is another appealing factor at Asian Jewels. One group of three people reported eating well for about $70 including tips, which is considered "totally reasonable" for a dim sum meal in a city like New York. This affordability makes Asian Jewels an attractive option for families and groups looking to enjoy a substantial meal without breaking the bank. The combination of good food, fast service, and reasonable prices contributes to its popularity among locals.

A significant point of distinction for Asian Jewels is the continued use of food carts, a feature that is becoming increasingly rare in many dim sum restaurants. One reviewer explicitly mentioned that seeing the "cart ladies pushing around the dishes" was "awesome" and a welcome sight compared to other dim sum spots that no longer offer this traditional service. This not only enhances the nostalgic feel but also allows diners to see and choose their dishes directly, adding to the immediacy and interactivity of the meal.

The past recognition of Asian Jewels, with one reviewer mentioning that it was "Michelin-recommended in the past," further attests to the quality and reputation of the restaurant. While the current Michelin status is not specified, a past recommendation from such a prestigious culinary guide speaks volumes about the standards the restaurant has maintained or once achieved.

Currently, there is no specific promotional information mentioned in the provided reviews. There are no details about special offers, discounts, or signature dishes being promoted. Local users interested in any potential promotions or a more comprehensive menu would likely need to visit the restaurant directly or inquire via phone or any online platforms they might use.

In conclusion, Asian Jewels (敦城海鲜酒楼) in Flushing, NY, offers a classic Cantonese dim sum experience characterized by the nostalgic charm of roaming food carts, fast and efficient service, reasonable prices, and a large, bustling atmosphere. While some reviewers find the food to be solid and authentic rather than groundbreaking, others have had exceptional experiences with specific dishes. The continued use of food carts is a significant feature that sets it apart and contributes to its old-school appeal. The reasonable pricing makes it accessible for many, and its past Michelin recommendation speaks to its quality. For local users in Flushing seeking a traditional and lively dim sum experience without a long wait, Asian Jewels is a highly recommended destination.

Asian Jewels (敦城海鲜酒楼) is a classic Cantonese dim sum hall with food carts still roaming between tables—fast, loud, and nostalgic. We came on a packed weekend morning and got seated instantly. Within minutes, food was on the table. We had all the staples—shumai, chicken feet, congee, fish balls, shrimp dumplings, milk buns. Everything was solid, nothing mind-blowing, but very true to the old-school experience. Service was efficient, no frills. The space is huge and hectic, but that’s part of the charm. Price is totally reasonable—three people ate well for about $70 with tips. Not the best dim sum in town, but if you want that bustling, cart-pushing vibe without the wait, this spot delivers.

I had heard great things about this place but didn’t expect it to be the best dim sum I’ve ever had. We only tried three dishes, but each one was perfect. I should mention there may be some bias since these are our usual favourites to order, but they were still the best I’ve ever had. They also have cart ladies pushing around the dishes, which is awesome to see since many dim sum spots I go to no longer do this. I can definitely see why this place was Michelin-recommended in the past.

Excellent dim sum. The shumai, pork buns, sesame balls and egg tarts off the carts were great. We also ordered the Green beans with pork and it was very good.

Dim sum is good , push cart ladies are sweet and polite so are the managers in suits. Huge dinning space with many rooms and the wait number calling goes fast. The plus side of this place is no need to share tables and a lot less shouting and noise. Very delightful dim sum brunch experience.
