About Asian Gourmet
Asian Gourmet, situated at 2003 E Michigan Ave in Lansing, MI, is a Chinese restaurant that identifies as a traditional, old-school Americanized establishment primarily geared towards takeout. While some recent reviews have been negative, one customer decided to try it and observed that the setup is mainly for takeout, although a few tables are available for dining in. The menu is noted to be fairly extensive with pricing considered fair by current standards.
Regarding service, one reviewer mentioned that some staff could benefit from improved conversational skills with American customers, suggesting a possible cultural difference in communication style rather than intentional rudeness. However, another customer had a very positive experience with the service, recounting an instance where they unknowingly ordered after closing hours (due to incorrect hours listed on Yelp), and the staff were exceptionally accommodating and friendly, earning a 100% recommendation for service.
In terms of food, one customer was generally satisfied, finding the fried rice good, the orange chicken decent (though could use better sauce), and particularly enjoying the egg roll. They also noted that the crab rangoons were larger than those at most other Chinese restaurants in the area. This customer felt they had a satisfying meal at a fair price but pointed out that drink service is limited, so customers should plan accordingly if they want beverages.
Another customer highly recommended the food, specifically mentioning the veggie lo mein and shrimp sweet and sour as great options. They expressed their intention to try Asian Gourmet again when back in town, emphasizing the great customer service and reasonable prices they experienced.
In summary, Asian Gourmet offers traditional Americanized Chinese food with a focus on takeout, though dine-in is possible at a few tables. While there are some mentions of potential communication challenges with staff, the restaurant is also praised for its accommodating and friendly service. Food highlights include larger crab rangoons, satisfying fried rice, and well-received veggie lo mein and shrimp sweet and sour. Customers should be aware that drink service may be limited. Customer Reviews
Despite a slew of negative recent reviews, I decided to give Asian Gourmet a shot. Upon entering it was obvious that this restaurant was an old school, traditional Americanized Chinese restaurant that was setup primarily for takeout. The menu was fairly extensive with fair pricing for today’s world. Some of the staff could use a bit of training in conversation with Americans as the girl taking my order was a bit short, but I think that was more of a cultural difference than her trying to be mean. My food was ready after a relatively short wait and I opted to sit at one of their few tables. I was generally satisfied with my food. The fried rice was good and the orange chicken was decent but could have had a bit better sauce. I really enjoyed my egg roll and found the crab rangoons to be bigger than what most Chinese restaurants have in the area. In the end, I felt like I had a satisfying meal at a fair price. Keep in mind that they do not really have a way to service drinks, so plan ahead if you want something to drink.
Very good Chinese food. Unknowingly ordered food after they closed (Yelp had the wrong hours), and they were so accommodating and friendly. I would 100% recommend for service. As for food, it was just as great! The veggie lo mein and shrimp sweet and sour were great options. I will definitely try again when I’m back in town. Such a great customer service and reasonable prices!
I have eaten here for years. It was Lansings best kept secret. I loved it. No more. Must be new owners and they don't know how to cook. General Tsaos chicken was like eating the soles of leather shoes. Sauce was awful. Couldn't even chew it, it was way over cooked. Egg Rolls, formerly the best in Lansing were dried out sweepings off the floor. How do you make cabbage too dry to eat? I'm baffled. Then there was the hot and Sour soup. A coagulated bowl of cornstarch liquid ( and I'm not kidding) it was full of chicken skin and feathers and had no cabbage or bamboo or any other signs of vegetables. All three of these items went in the garbage disposal. And the worst part, this is strike three. So it's my fault for going back. The old staff was kind, generous and talented. This staff is rude, doesn't know the basics about cooking and doesn't care. And yes the portions are greatly reduced this year but it doesn't really matter as you wouldn't want to eat it anyway. They should leave while they still can because it's pretty obvious no one is going there any more. Feathers and chicken skin in my soup? Really? They must think we are idiots.
I was craving some Chinese food, so I decided to try out Asian Gourmet, however the recent reviews did not give a great impression on the restaurant. However, I don’t take reviews to heart especially ones that gives too extreme of ratings. I decided to give in however, and try some of the food others recommended, like the general tsos. Everyone has different tastes which could have lead to them to make reviews. I think the food is great, I had a great time here personally, I would come back again.
After reading the reviews I decided to try this restaurant. Service was great. Inside looked clean. The food was edible. Normally Chinese is a treat, but this wasn't. I wouldn't go back.
