About Asia Tea House

Asia Tea House is a Chinese restaurant situated at 4230 Forbes Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15213, USA. They can be contacted at (412) 308-5177 or +1 412-308-5177.

Based on recent customer feedback, experiences at Asia Tea House appear to be mixed. One recurring concern in the reviews is the dryness of the chicken, particularly the bourbon chicken. One customer noted that while the sauce at the bottom of the container provided some moisture, it was insufficient to compensate for the overall dryness, making the chicken less enjoyable. This customer suggested that the food might be better earlier in the day.

Another review expressed significant dissatisfaction, describing the chicken as so hard that it was difficult to eat and posed a choking hazard for children. This customer also reported a negative interaction when calling the restaurant to address the issue, stating that they were talked over and initially offered a refund only after raising their voice. This individual's experience left them feeling angry and hungry.

On a more positive note, one customer appreciated the addition of a tent outside the front of the restaurant during colder months, indicating an effort to provide some comfort for patrons, possibly while waiting or for outdoor dining.

In summary, reviews suggest that while Asia Tea House may have been a satisfactory option for some in the past, recent experiences highlight potential issues with food quality, specifically the dryness of the chicken. There are also concerns raised about customer service. Customers seeking Chinese cuisine in the area may want to consider these recent experiences when making their dining decisions. The presence of a tent for colder weather is a noted positive aspect.

I used to go to Pitt, and liked these guys well enough to go when I didn't want the extra-greasiness of Szechuan Spice. But, despite it being awhile since I'd gotten food from here, I was still hesitant because I remembered the chicken always being dry. But I really wanted bourbon chicken, and it's hard to find around here, so I went here. And it was pretty dry. Yeah, the sauce at the bottom helped (to reference the owner's apparent response to another review), but you shouldn't have to drench chicken in sauce for it to be easier to eat. And frankly, there wasn't enough sauce in the bottom to compensate for the dryness anyway. Pretty good if you're a stoned/drunk college student or can't eat super greasy food without it triggering your chronic illness, but I guess it'll just be awhile before I have bourbon chicken again. The flavors also weren't particularly strong, and in retrospect I think I should've just gone to my usual spot. Would've taken longer and they don't have bourbon chicken, but it would've felt more worth the money. I feel like I've always ended up there later in the day, so I would suggest try going there closer to when they open, maybe it won't be so dry then. At the very least, the little tent they put up against the front during the colder months is a very nice touch.

Chicken was so hard, couldn’t even pick it up with a fork or chew it. My children choked on it. I called to tell them about how dry and hard the chicken was, they talked over me and told me the sauce went to the bottom of the container. Then told me I could get a refund after I raised my voice to talk over them. I didn’t want a refund. I wanted to eat a meal with my family. I could’ve went to the mall and had better food. Now I’m sitting here mad and hungry.

Ordered delivery and it came on time. I ordered orange chicken and lo mein and steamed dumplings. The chicken was OK, slightly dry. Lo mein was salty. The dumpling skin was way too thick and chewy but overall the food is 4/10, affordable, tasty, but not my cup of tea.

This is a "you get what you pay for" kind of restaurant. I usually just get a la carte lo mein for $6, and it's pretty good but not spectacular, and the quality varies. There is no seating inside but there is plenty of seating in Schenley Plaza.

I hate being one of "those" reviewers who liked a place for a while but never remembered to leave a review until the spot got bad, but alas. Anyway, Asia Tea House was a little spot that me and my friends used to frequent back when I was in high school. Five years ago, the food here was quite tasty and was well worth your money - same with the boba and drinks offered. Now? Not even close. Before recently, my last trip was in 2022 and the food was meh at best but it at least didn't make you sick. After getting nostalgic for this place, I was instead met with pieces of orange chicken that should've been called orange bricks instead. They were WAY too crunchy and somehow felt overcooked on the outside and extremely undercooked in the inside. How does this happen? It seems the consensus is that the food quality has gone done tremendously, so you should avoid this place.
