About 955 Chinese food

955 Chinese food, located at 2252 Queen St E in Toronto's Beaches (phone: (647) 352-3818 or mobile: +1 647-352-3818), is a Chinese restaurant that appears to be known for its affordable dim sum lunch buffet. Several reviews highlight the $15 lunch buffet (previously $13.99), describing it as an unbeatable deal for value, with generally good quality food. Some patrons have become regular visitors, coming multiple times a week to enjoy a plate or two for lunch, appreciating the quiet ambiance of the spot.

While the buffet is praised for its price, some reviewers note that the selection can be limited and that items may occasionally run low. However, the friendly hostess is mentioned for her willingness to quickly replenish items upon request. Despite the value, one reviewer who has had dim sum multiple times found the buffet to be just decent, rating it a 3 or 4 out of 10. They pointed out a limited selection of dumplings, fried rice, noodles, dim sum items, and even chicken wings. A significant concern raised was that most of the food was at best room temperature, potentially due to the heaters under the trays not being turned on.

Service experiences seem to vary. One reviewer who visited during a less busy time noted that the single server present was nice but largely absent, disappearing into the back and being difficult to find for requests like drink orders. This led to the reviewer's father having to get up to seek assistance. The reviewer suggests that service and food quality might be better during busier periods and for those not opting for the buffet.

The atmosphere of the restaurant received a more positive note, described as nice and sunny inside with a pleasant building design, even though it was quiet with no music and minimal staff present during one reviewer's visit. Overall, 955 Chinese food seems to offer a very budget-friendly dim sum lunch buffet that some find to be a great deal, while others have concerns about the food temperature, limited selection, and potentially slow service during off-peak hours. The atmosphere is generally considered pleasant.

Surely the best deal on dim sum in the city. The $15 lunch buffet is unbeaten for value and the quality is generally good. Have started coming 2-3 times per week, just to grab a plate or two for lunch. A nice quiet spot. Though the buffet sometimes runs low on items, the friendly hostess will fairly quickly top up any items if you request them. Truly can't be beat for $15

As someone who has had dim sum multiple times I went into this with low expectations because for 13.99$ all you can eat dim sum sounds a bit sketchy if you know what I mean. I was expecting a solid 6 or 7 out of ten but it was more of a 3 or 4 out of ten. The food was decent, not great but not bad. There was a limited selection of foods ranging from different dumplings, fried rice and noodles and different dim sum items and for some reason there were chicken wings? Most of the things were room temperature at best which kind of took away from the satisfaction. This could have something to do with the fact that the heaters under the trays weren't even on 🤨. Our server that seemed to be the only server there at the time was nice but we saw her about maybe twice the whole time we were there and she just disappeared into the back the whole time. When my dad wanted a drink there was no one there to get him one. My dad got up from his seat and tried to get someone's attention but still no response, I think a search party might have been needed. I'm sure that when it's more busy and for those who aren't getting the buffet that service and food is much better. The atmosphere was probably the best part of this even though there were no people there, no music at all, or barely any staff, but it was nice and sunny inside and the design of the building was nice. Overall, I would not recommend coming here for the buffet, but if you have no other options it's not that bad and maybe bring your own drinks.

I asked for EXTRA curry for my Singapore noodles and for a little less spice on my General Tso. I think they forgot the curry entirely :( So bland. The wonton soup was bland, and the General Tso had so much water at the bottom. Adding; I shouldn't have to add soy sauce (I try to minimize soy) to get flavour from the wonton soup and as far as all the water at the bottom of the General Tso (in response to your response) if I had known and you don't specify anywhere, I would not have ordered it. The chicken was overcooked and dry and the broccoli was almost raw. It also came without rice, maybe the rice would have soaked up some of the water? Who knows. When someone gives feedback, it's an opportunity to improve. Finding that any food ordered through UberEats is almost always subpar.

I can only hope this was a bad night for these guys, but I’ll tell you, my meal was horrible. The Shrimp Pad Thai did not taste like Pad Thai at all. It had spaghetti noodles instead of flat rice noodles, rubbery, overcooked shrimp and it barely tasted of tamarind. The dish had a weird orange colour instead of the rich brownish colouring of a nice tamarind sauce. It also tasted as if it had been sitting on a counter for hours before it was delivered to an unsuspecting customer…me. The chicken balls were heavy, laden with grease and tough. Inedible. I’ve ordered from here several times before with good results of fine Chinese food. This experience has put me off trying 955 again anytime soon. I think I’ll go back to my old place, Eden, and give them a shot at regaining my patronage, even though they can be hit or miss sometimes too. If anyone has a solution for good Chinese delivery in the Leslieville/Riverside/Beach area, please leave me a comment.

Food was delivered piping hot and fresh! Flavourful and good quality. General tso’s had a great sauce-y crunch and the chef’s secret eggplant was excellent. Both were a touch sweet for my taste but still delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks for bringing great Chinese food to the neighbourhood!
