Welcome to 56 Buffet, a Chinese restaurant located at 1425 Scalp Ave, Johnstown, PA 15904, USA, offering a buffet-style dining experience. Customer reviews for 56 Buffet present a somewhat polarized view of the dining experience. One recent customer shared a highly negative experience, describing it as the "worst buffet" they had ever visited. This reviewer reported spending $99, though the context of this cost (number of people, specific items) is not provided. They characterized the food as "dry, cold, and nasty." Furthermore, they recounted a negative interaction with the restaurant owner, alleging that their concerns were dismissed with laughter and a lack of attention. Specific issues with the food included mac & cheese with shredded and liquid cheese, and lo mein with an unpleasant aftertaste that made it inedible for the reviewer.
In stark contrast, another recent review paints a much more positive picture of 56 Buffet. This customer visited for Christmas dinner and praised the staff as "so pleasant and efficient." They also found the atmosphere to be "very nice and clean." Regarding the food, this reviewer stated that it was "good," noting that the buffet was kept "clean and stocked." A specific highlight for this customer was the "walnut shrimp," which they deemed the "best!" Additionally, they mentioned ample parking, contributing to a positive overall impression of the establishment as a "very nice place!"
Considering these two very different experiences, it is challenging to form a definitive objective assessment of 56 Buffet based solely on these two reviews. The negative review raises significant concerns about food quality (dryness, temperature, taste), as well as customer service and potentially inconsistent food preparation (the mac & cheese). The high cost mentioned by this reviewer, without further context, also warrants consideration.
Conversely, the positive review highlights strengths in staff efficiency and pleasantness, a clean and nice atmosphere, and satisfactory food quality, with the walnut shrimp being a standout dish. The cleanliness and restocking of the buffet are also positive aspects mentioned. The ample parking adds to the convenience for diners.
Given the buffet format of 56 Buffet, customers can typically expect a wide selection of dishes, potentially including various types of appetizers, main courses featuring meat, poultry, seafood, and vegetables, as well as rice, noodles, and desserts. Buffets can be appealing for their variety and the ability to try different items. However, maintaining the quality and temperature of a large selection of food can be a challenge for any buffet restaurant.
Information regarding the specific environment or ambiance of 56 Buffet is limited to the positive reviewer's comment of it being "very nice and clean." This suggests that at least some customers find the dining area to be pleasant and well-maintained. The negative review does not provide any details about the physical environment.
In terms of services, 56 Buffet primarily offers a dine-in experience centered around their buffet. The availability of ample parking, as mentioned in one review, is a notable convenience for customers driving to the location. The contrasting reviews on staff interaction suggest that service quality might vary. The positive review praised the staff's pleasantness and efficiency, while the negative review described a dismissive encounter with the owner.
No specific features or unique selling points are explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews, aside from the buffet format itself and the positive mention of the walnut shrimp. There is also no promotional information available in the given text.
For local users in Johnstown considering dining at 56 Buffet, it is advisable to take both positive and negative feedback into account. The significant disparity between the two provided reviews suggests that individual experiences may vary considerably. Factors such as the time of day, day of the week, specific dishes chosen, and individual expectations could all play a role in the overall satisfaction. If you value variety and the ability to sample different Chinese dishes, a buffet might be appealing. However, it would be prudent to manage expectations regarding the consistency of food quality and service based on the available feedback.
To gain a more comprehensive understanding, potential customers might consider looking for additional recent reviews on other platforms to see if a more consistent pattern of feedback emerges. Alternatively, visiting 56 Buffet and experiencing it firsthand might be the best way to determine if it meets your personal preferences for a Chinese buffet restaurant in Johnstown.

Worst buffet, I went to. Spent $99 here the food was dry, cold and nasty and when I talked to the restaurant owner he didn’t listen to anything I had to say and walked away and laughed. When they bought the mac & cheese out, it had shredded cheese on top of it and liquid cheese The lo mein has a aftertaste couldn’t even finish the plate
Came here for Xmas dinner. Staff is so pleasant and efficient. Atmosphere is very nice and clean. The food is good, they keep all the buffets clean and stocked. Walnut shrimp is the best! Parking is ample. Very nice place!
Good Chinese buffet with a little something for everyone. Offers a WIDE variety of typical Asian food + sushi + hibachi + limited but ample selection of traditional American food (pizza + fried chicken, mashed potatoes, corn and gravy) + desserts (bite sized pastries & 8 kinds of icecream) + a LIMITED salad bar. The steamed crab legs were a definite PLUS, as were the crawfish that you don't normally see in most restaurants, let alone an all-you-can-eat buffet. The dining area was SPACIOUS and clean, as were the restrooms. Conveniently located with ample parking and easy handicapped accessibility. The friendly and attentive staff were appreciated.
I'm stuffed and speechless!!! Talk about variety!!!! This was an unexpected surprise!!!!
We went in and picked up a menu. It stated the buffet was $8.99, but when we asked the lady she said no no menus old. Price now $12.99. Very dishonest people. We left.
