About 3 Little Pigs Chi (3LP)

3 Little Pigs Chi (3LP), located at 3336 N Milwaukee Ave in Chicago, Illinois, operates within the Chinese restaurant category, offering a menu of Chinese-American dishes primarily for delivery and takeout. Based on recent customer feedback available online, experiences with this establishment appear to be varied, with some initial positive impressions followed by significant issues regarding service and food quality.

One customer recounted a positive first experience in 2023, noting that the portions were large and the food, while described as "greasy," was flavorful. This initial satisfaction led to plans for future orders. However, subsequent experiences, particularly those involving delivery service through third-party platforms, have been considerably negative.

A subsequent order placed in June 2024, valued at $75 and made via Uber Eats, resulted in a nearly two-hour delay. The customer reported attempting to cancel the order after this extended wait and encountering difficulties with the delivery platform regarding a refund or credit. Frustrated and hungry, they contacted 3 Little Pigs Chi directly to inquire about picking up the order themselves. The restaurant reportedly denied this request, stating that the order had been "thrown away" despite having been paid for. Adding to the negative experience, the restaurant was reportedly closing at the time of this interaction. This incident highlights significant issues with order fulfillment, communication, and potentially coordination with delivery services.

Despite this considerably negative experience, the same customer later decided to give 3 Little Pigs Chi another chance, attributing some of the previous issues to the third-party delivery service. This subsequent order was placed for delivery to a workplace, traveling from Avondale to Lincoln Park. This time, the delivery took over an hour and a half. The quality of the food received was also disappointing, with the chicken being described as "mid at best" and the vegetable noodles reportedly containing "not a single vegetable." This experience further soured the customer's opinion of the restaurant, leading them to express strong dissatisfaction and a commitment not to order from 3 Little Pigs Chi again. The reviewer also expressed concern over the number of "ghost kitchens" associated with the establishment in Chicago.

Another customer's initial experience was marked by excitement due to the restaurant's online ratings. However, their first order proved to be largely negative. They ordered fried rice, which they described as a "different experience" and noted that their "spicy rice was 3x salted like really salty couldn't eat it garbage." Additionally, they received only three crab rangoon for $11, which they found to be overpriced. Furthermore, a chicken plate that was part of their order was missing. While they found the orange chicken to be "good," they described the BBQ pork as "raw" and ultimately concluded that the restaurant was "overrated" and "not so good for the reviews." This review points to significant inconsistencies in food quality, issues with order accuracy, and concerns about pricing.

Based on these recent reviews, it is challenging to provide a consistently positive description of the environment and services of 3 Little Pigs Chi, as the focus of the feedback is primarily on the quality of the food and the reliability of the service, particularly delivery. There is no mention of a dine-in environment, suggesting that the restaurant likely operates primarily as a delivery and takeout establishment. The services offered would therefore include food preparation, order fulfillment for pickup, and potentially coordination with third-party delivery services.

Features of 3 Little Pigs Chi, based on the limited and somewhat contradictory information, might include:

  • Potentially Large Portions (based on one older positive review): While this was mentioned in an earlier experience, more recent reviews do not corroborate this.
  • Menu including dishes like fried rice, Oriental chicken, vegetable noodles, crab rangoon, BBQ pork, and orange chicken: These are specific items mentioned in customer reviews.

However, significant concerns raised by recent customers outweigh these potential features:

  • Inconsistent Food Quality: Experiences range from flavorful (albeit greasy) to excessively salty, undercooked (raw BBQ pork), and lacking advertised ingredients (vegetable-less noodles).
  • Unreliable Delivery Service: Significant delays and issues with order fulfillment through third-party platforms have been reported.
  • Poor Communication and Customer Service: Refusal to allow pickup of a significantly delayed and paid-for order, and lack of resolution regarding delivery issues, suggest shortcomings in customer service.
  • Order Inaccuracy: Missing items in orders have been reported.
  • Potentially High Pricing for Certain Items: The cost of three crab rangoon for $11 was perceived as excessive by one customer.

There is no promotional information available in the provided reviews, aside from the implicit promotion that might have been suggested by the initial positive rating mentioned by one customer. However, the subsequent experiences detailed in the reviews paint a concerning picture regarding the consistency and reliability of 3 Little Pigs Chi.

In conclusion, while some initial experiences with 3 Little Pigs Chi (3LP) in Chicago may have been positive, recent customer reviews highlight significant issues related to food quality, delivery service, order accuracy, and customer service. Potential local users should be aware of these reported inconsistencies when considering ordering from this establishment. The lack of information regarding a dine-in environment suggests that the primary service model is delivery and takeout. Given the recent negative feedback, it would be prudent for potential customers to exercise caution and consider these experiences when making a decision.

Let me start by saying I had a positive experience in 2023 when I first ordered from 3 Little Pigs Chi. The portions were large, flavorful albeit greasy. My partner and I liked it and planned on ordering from them again. The second time he and I ordered from 3 Little Pigs Chi was June 2024, we ordered $75 worth of food via Uber Eats. Our order was taking almost 2 hours before we cancelled our order - to which we contacted UberEats. UberEats is a scam just like Uber, the company itself is scum. They refused to credit or refund the amount even after explaining the situation. Tired, hungry and frustrated we contacted the restaurant and asked if we could pick up the order ourselves, to which they denied saying the order had been “thrown away” as no one had picked it up EVEN though it had been paid for ourselves. The cherry on top, they were closing. Had this ordeal not lasted 2 hours, that would have been plenty of time to drive all the way across town and pick up our own food. Still, I gave 3 Little Pigs another chance, understanding that Uber Eats was more at fault in the previous situation. This time I ordered delivery for work. We waited over an hour (1.5 hours this time) for lunch for delivery from Avondale to Lincoln Park. The chicken was mid at best and the vegetable noodles did not have a single vegetable. I rarely post bad reviews but this was despicable and I will never eat from here again. Honestly appalled how they have so many ghost kitchens in Chicago and are in business.

Got the salt and pepper fried chicken sandwich because how could I not. It survived my 20-minute walk back to my lodging, and it was perfectly crisp and seasoned. The fries looked a little sad, and the service was a bit odd. I placed an order online while walking over, and when I arrived, the server decided to leave and didn't come back for a bit even though the line was growing. I did eventually get my order, and am so glad I gave this a try. I grew up eating salt and pepper chicken with rice and other dishes around the dinner table, so this gave me all the feels. 🧂

TL;DR: Dry and bland pork, fantastic chicken! The place itself is kind of like a trailer around a corner serving to-go only. Quick and easy ordering but there only seemed to be a few people working at the time so the food may take a bit to come out. I got the chicken and pork combo box. They asked me what rice I wanted and I chose whatever sounded good but didn’t know it would be an up charge 🤪 I’ll take the L on that one. Though they didn’t ask me what chicken I wanted and just gave me the salt n pepper one, which is fine since I liked it anyway. Anything the pork touched in this box was automatically bad. I LOVE char siu, and this was not it. The pork was SO dry and didn’t have that smokey flavor you expect from a char siu. I got the BBQ pork fried rice too and not only were the pieces dry too (and super small), the fried rice itself was dry and didn’t have that wok flavor that other Chinese takeouts would have. The only redeeming factor that HEAVILY carries the 3* rating was the salt & pepper chicken. Very salty (just the way I like it) and super juicy! I’ll probably come back just to try the fried chicken sandwich and maybe the other chicken boxes. Oh, and I like the owner’s face as the mascot. Very cute.

Excellent takeout experience at 3 Little Pigs in River North. Especially pleased by the value; prices are excellent considering the portions and quality. I love the attention to detail in the cooking: orange chicken is drizzled with sauce instead of soaked to keep it crispy, and fresh orange wedges are provided to hit it with extra flavor; vegetable fried rice has a hint of smoky flavor from the wok; salt and pepper chicken made with succulent, dark meat and evenly cut, generous slices of jalapeno. We also had the Mongolian vegetables which was a well-sauced tofu and green beans, and the curly fries that were fresh and crispy. I was hesitant to visit due to some negative reviews, but it seems like they've worked out whatever kinks led to past negative experiences. With a local, small business, I think some growing pains are to be expected. But you can't beat food made with love by members of the community. I would recommend ordering direct and picking up if possible so that you're getting the freshest version of these tasty items, although I found the leftovers reheated well the next day. At the River North location, there is no seating yet, so be prepared to take home or eat at a nearby park.
