About 101 Eatery

101 Eatery is a Chinese restaurant situated in the tunnel system at 500 Dallas St T20, within One Allen Center in downtown Houston. Operating as a Chinese restaurant, it serves its food from steam tables, offering a quick service style for the downtown lunch crowd.

According to one reviewer, 101 Eatery is considered to serve some of the most authentic Chinese food available within the tunnel system. This customer has made it their new go-to lunch spot, appreciating the typically short lines and friendly staff. They have enjoyed several dishes, including salt & pepper pork, salt & pepper fish, curry chicken, and pork belly, all of which they found tasty and authentic. They also recommend the sesame balls as a favorite and suggest the 1 entree combo with a split of cabbage and rice for a balanced meal.

However, another customer had a less favorable experience. They felt that the food they tried, specifically the orange chicken, tasted like it had been sitting out for too long, resulting in a soggy texture. While they found the sauces on the meat to be okay, they noted a lack of overall flavor and believed the orange chicken was primarily dark meat. They also expressed concerns about the sauce with the egg rolls, suggesting it might contain ketchup. On a positive note, this reviewer found the chow mein to be pretty good. Despite this, they concluded that the food was not worth the price, even though the staff was nice.

In summary, 101 Eatery offers a convenient option for Chinese food in the downtown Houston tunnel system. It is praised by some for its authentic flavors, friendly staff, and quick service, particularly during lunch hours. Popular dishes include the salt & pepper items, curry chicken, pork belly, and sesame balls. However, some customers have experienced issues with food freshness and flavor in certain dishes like the orange chicken. Local users working or passing through the downtown tunnels may find 101 Eatery a convenient choice for a quick and potentially authentic Chinese meal, but individual experiences regarding food quality may vary.

You can tell the food has been sitting out too long once you bight in. It may have been ok if it was fresh. However this was soggy. The sauces one the meat were ok but still lacked flavor. They use pretty much exclusively dark meat from what I can tell based on my orange chicken. The staff was very nice but the food is not worth it at all. I think the sauce with the egg rolls maybe had ketchup in it based on the flavor. The chow mein was pretty good though.

Most authentic Chinese food in the tunnels. It’s also my new go-to place for lunch in One Allen Center. There’s hardly any line and the staff is friendly! It’s steam tables for Chinese food cooked daily. I’ve had the salt & pepper pork, salt & pepper fish, curry chicken, and pork belly. All are tasty and feel authentic! I’ve tried the egg roll and the sesame balls, but the sesame balls are my favorite. I recommend going for the 1 entree combo and do a split between cabbage and rice as shown in my photos. Makes for a tasty balanced meal🤣.

The combo deal was a rip off you can a lil a$$ plate with only a small portion of food. I spent too much on this just to get nothing back in return, do not come here cause it is a waste of time and money. it was supposed to be two separate entrees and she just gave me only one and that is mad Diablo af. I'm still hungry and my stomach wasn't satisfied. I need to find a REAL chinese buffet. Also, the food barely had any seasoning and everything looked kinda of old and not all that fresh at all.

I was very excited to try this place out. When I went last week, around 1:30 pm, they didn’t have sides (rice/noodles), but still had the store open only selling entrees. So, I decided to try again today and left unimpressed. I got the 1 item combo with fried rice, salt & pepper fish and veg egg rolls. Portion of the fried rice was decent, but it was salty and stale. Serving size of fish was too little - 4/5 small cubes, just fitting 1/4th of the small to go box. Fish was dry, rubbery and salty. I was momentarily surprised when they gave 3 veg egg rolls, but they were just shells - no filling whatsoever. Overall, food was a huge disappointment for the $13 (incl taxes) I spent. Will walk a little further and stick to Wok N Roll in 1000 Main, who are super fresh (cooking in small batches).

Everything about this place is atrocious. Ordered burban chicken, took one bite and spit it out. The food smelt like DOG FOOD. When I inquired about the quality of the food it's "no refund" how convenient. Take you your $15 and throw the whole business away.
