Henry’s Hunan Restaurant
Great space south of Market to grab authentic spicy Chinese food. From the egg rolls and meat pies, hot and sour soup, or special al la carte dishes, it is just special. Try the spicy eggplant or tofu for sure, add either a beef or shrimp plate too!
Here’s Henry’s Hunan is a family-owned gem that brings the authentic flavors of their hometown to life with their spicy signature dishes. We visited as a group of 16, including 5 kids, and were fortunate to get a table on a busy holiday weekend. For many of us, this was our first time trying traditional Chinese vegetarian food, and it did not disappoint. The green tea was incredibly soothing and paired perfectly with our meal. We started with appetizers: the onion cake and spring rolls, which were delicious, though slightly on the oily side. For the main course, we tried a variety of dishes: • Chinese greens: Simple yet packed with flavor. • Vegetarian chow mein: Perfectly cooked noodles with a great balance of spices. • Vegetarian fried rice with tofu: Light yet satisfying. • Kung Pao Tofu: Spicy, flavorful, and a favorite among the group. • Sautéed eggplant: Melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The portions are generous, and the food tends to be spicy, so be sure to let them know if you prefer less heat. The staff were amazing—friendly, attentive, and helpful—which made the experience even more enjoyable. We’ll definitely be coming back!
