Village Kitchen家湘味
The sour and Spicy shredded potato was just so-so. The flavor was plain. I would not recommend it. The Chicken intestines and hunan stir fried pork are really spicy. They are good along with white rice. BUT they are BOTH SALTY. Really salty. You have to drink lots of water. Many people have recommended this Chinese restaurant and they think this is the best Chinese restaurant in San Diego. If so, I would say maybe Chinese restaurants here are less competitive than I expected. Or maybe three dishes is a small sample size. We need to try more dishes to have a fair review
I had 4 dishes all very salty. I’ll not plan to come back again ever. Only shrimp fry rice that we can eat not too much salty.
Ma's House
Just wow experience! I try to locate the authentic chinese halal places across the US and this was a hit. The location sign is dimly lit and hard to find but once you enter the restaurant they welcome you with a smile. Great Hospitality, helped me out with menu options. Here is the item specific feedback Pan Fried Dumplings were great. Goes well with the soy sauce Triple fried curry rice - More on the spicy side and I really liked it Jalapeno Sliced Chicken - The sauces in this was amazing. Highly recommended Noodle Soup - First time trying noodle soup and the broth was awesome Garlic Chicken with Jalapenos - Fried variation of the sliced chicken. Again Awesome. The sauce is spicy and tangy
Found this gem when I was trying to find halal spots in SD. The food was so gooood! Like besides being halal, this was one of the best Chinese spots I've tried. I'll definitely be going again. Also prices were great for the portions.
China Quick Wok
Wow wow. I’ve been getting take out from Quick Wok for years now and their food remains so delicious. Please support this small business if you’re ever craving great Chinese food. Seriously I’m writing this as I’m eating because I wanted to express gratitude for the chef. 10/10 food quality.
I just discovered this place. I ordered war won ton soup and they made it even though it’s not on the menu. It was so good! For $16 I got two war won ton soups and fried “chips” with sweet and sour sauce. It was SO good!!
Mandarin Wok Restaurant
I was in disbelief that gluten free Chinese food actually existed. I have enviously watched my family consume Chinese and could not partake so many times in the past. I ordered the orange chicken and beef broccoli and was impressed with the taste of both. The restaurant was clean and beautifully decorated. A lovely family run business and you can taste the love inside of each bite.
If you have a Gluten allergy, then this should be the only Chinese restaurant you go to. Their Gluten Free food is beyond amazing. Almost anything can be prepared to be Gluten Free, so you won't have to worry about no options and the flavor profile brings the same punch the regular Gluten version has. I'm basic, but the Orange Chicken & Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings and some of the best I've had in San Diego. Please stop by and give this place a try.
Fortune Cookie Express
Why would anyone in their right mind spend money at Panda Express with this place so close by off Balboa? Please, why?! Huge portions. Super friendly service. Great options. Might not be the most fresh Chinese food, you should already know that. FCE is a must-visit for those looking for affordable Chinese fast food to take out.
Great food. Great service. They don't mess around. The containers barely close because they're so full. People seem to forget how to drive in the parking lot, so be careful. It's next to a chic fil a, so there are a lot of oversized emotional support vehicles.
The Noble Chef (豪記私房菜)
Tiny little restaurant with super authentic Chinese food. There were at least three banquet tables filled with so much food the waitress actually split some of their dishes into smaller plates so that they would fit on the table. We got their specialty dish, the French beef. It came with super tender chunks of beef quickly stir fried in a delicious sauce. The meat was medium rare and amazing, and served in a bed of onions and lettuce. We got the pea sprouts with garlic for a simple and delicious vegetable dish. Scallops with XO sauce also had chilies, onion, and a delicious sauce. The waiter warned us that it was spicy, and it was very tasty and not too hot. My hubby's favorite was the French cooked beef. Mine was the duck and taro clay pot, as it was fragrant with taro, and the roast duck with bones was tender and tasty and deeply flavored the thick sauce. It was all good, came quickly, and the waiters packed up our leftovers quickly and easily.
This is our favorite Cantonese restaurant in town. Although slightly more pricier than other Cantonese restaurants, the quality is also much much higher. Our favorite dishes are: Roasted duck in Cantonese style, Guifei chicken, sizzling beef steak with black pepper, and Pea shoots with preserved eggs. Waiters are friendly and helpful. You also get free sugar soup, a traditional Cantonese after meal dessert if you dine in for dinner.
Panda Express
Brand new location, I’ve been a couple times and it’s extremely clean and the employees are all nice and proactive. Shout out to Joseph who went above and beyond to take care of my order and ensure everything was up to standard and I was taken care of. I can tell the team here is thoughtful and I will be back specifically because of the team here - great customer service makes a difference and it’s great to see a chain restaurant take that to heart!
For some reason this panda seems like a training ground for employees. This means that the service is incredibly slow, they have gotten my order in person wrong 2 out of 5 times which is astonishingly high for a couple service food. They also seem to leave there food out longer than most other pandas in the nearby area. Overall food taste old and they take way to long.
Chinese Kitchen (King Bistro)
When we entered there wasn’t anyone, and tbh the restaurant’s design looked a little bare… it almost looked like it wasn’t doing well. When the food came, my entire family (with three kids) loved it. We were here for lunch and ordered noodles, and I could just say it’s comfort in my belly. Tho they took our order wrongly and served us an extra bowl of noodle (and we paid for it), we took it bcos we wanted to try something else from the menu. A senior lady (I suppose she’s the one who cooked the dishes) came out and asked if everything was alright, and even gave us a free bottle of drink. Oh, there was also a small crowd also flowed in during our meal as well. Would recommend!
Haven't been here since the place seems to be a younger and hippieer place, however, the food attracted me to bring the family here. It's called a "bistro", it's a little bit like a bar with real food. When we arrived at about 8pm on a Friday night, the place was almost full, with a couple of bigger parties. They serve Kirin on tab, you can order in like a table side keg with pour, it looks like at least a couple gallons. They serve Chinese style skewers/kabob, with spicy or mild tastes. These are made to order, freshly charcoal grilled, great for drinking. They also serve Chinese hot pot, that's what I will try next time. They also have a few other dishes, like fried rice, some noodle dishes, and Mantis shrimp, pepper and salt style, best you can get in San Diego. The services maybe something they can tighten up a bit. They were friendly and attentive enough, however, since it was busy, they did forget one of our hot soy milk drink. Overall, a great place to relax and enjoy the evening.
Cha Cha Tea Spot
I get overwhelmed when a place has so many options for food and I don’t know what to order. While we were waiting for chicken next door, we got an almond milk tea and Vietnamese coffee. I can’t find many places with almond flavor and order it any chance we get. It was a tad bit sweet but great flavor. I can’t say the same about the coffee. That wasn’t on the menu but she said could make it so I guess she tried her best.
I rather go here for takeout than any other! We're hooked. The gentleman that took our order was friendly and helpful. I couldn't remember what I ate the last time, but once I described it, he knew. It was the Singapore style noodles that came with shrimp, beef, and veggies. My son got the salt and pepper wings, and I had to try them. They were delicious! Crispy! We also got the orange chicken. Highly recommend.
Panda Express
Panda is one of the few fast food Chinese restaurants remaining in my neighborhood. I only go there when I don’t have time to make the trek to the Convoy Asian Cultural District and I’ve just “gotta have” my wanting and Chinese food fix. In the future, maybe I should just order it intravenously, because the flavors and freshness were definitely NOT there this May Day (1st of May). I ordered an “easy” to please two-entree plate with orange chicken, broccoli beef, and noodles. Basic fare, right? One would expect these entrees to be spot on, since they are the Panda’s flagship dishes. Wow, was I disappointed. Yes, they were takeout and it took me 10 minutes or so to get home with my meal, but the coating on the chicken was gummy and lacked the intense flavors of the sweet orange battling the vinegary tang that makes this dish so very good… sometimes. The broccoli beef was similarly lackluster with overcooked broccoli, not enough onion, and grissly, tough beef. I hoped that the lo mein noodles might save the day, but the batch mine was drawn from had spent too long sentenced to steam table prison. Gummy noodles are the bane of bad lo mein. (Sorry, didn’t mean to rhyme.) On the bright side, the wait staff was very crisp and on the ball. They handled the light crowd masterfully and had me in and out and on my way in under 10 minutes. Very good presence and focus, as well as good customer service. Nice! The store was very clean and presentable as well. Fix the food, and I’ll be back. I promise!
I ordered foods via UberEats. The items I paid for were missing because they did not give them to the driver. But, they ended up saying that they cannot send the missing foods, and lied that it is driver’s fault. I was with the driver talking to them on the phone. They earlier said they would bring the missing foods to me, but then changed as they said I need to go pick up the foods (lol - such a non-sense). It is because they have to charge the driver for it happened because of their mistake. They have serious moral and crime-level issue; guiltifying the driver and not delivering stuff were paid for. I am sure that they will go bankrupt and close the store in a year. They never say sorry.
