House of Dumplings 水餃之家
I love this place! Consistent Mom and Pop dim sum spot in an inconspicuous area. Instead of sitting in traffic, I suggest stopping off and enjoying dinner before you continue home. This is a quintessential hole in the wall that is very unassuming, but boy does it hit the spot. Another option: they sell frozen apps! Pick up some frozen pork buns and go home and steam them yourself for dinner, you’ll be the popular one! We got the XLBs, string beans, beef noodle soup (we asked to make it spicy), spicy dumplings, & 3 flavor dumplings. All 5 were delicious! String Beans- tasty, garlicky, wok fried to perfection. Great side addition to our mains. 3 flavor- great taster’s item if you can’t decide what you want. All the dim sum are well portioned for someone hungry patrons so eat up! Spicy dumplings- Amazing! The greatness of this dish is its simplicity: the pork and Napa cabbage dumplings with spicy chili crunch. XLB- soup dumplings are pretty standard gout a dim sum place now, but the difference here is it tastes homemade! Beef noodle soup- Excuse me??! Did you say top tier ? Thought so… a mix of canton style thick noodles, tender tender beef in a savory and tasty beef broth. Asked to make it spicy and it was indeed spicy! I loved every spoonful. All in all, a great great spot that not too many people would ever think to stop by, but I assure you, you’d be missing out. Skip the lines of those other popular places and come here, you won’t regret it!
This is a small, nice, neighborhood plaza Chinese restaurant with a very authentic menu that more than just dumplings. They have many traditional dishes too. If there’s something you don’t see, ask and they may be able to make it. The beef noodle soup and soup dumplings are my favorite. My brother loves the sesame noodles, which he can’t find most places. Dine in seating is limited to five tables, but I’ve never had an issue getting a table. They are very accommodating. I don’t know what it is, but they have the best jasmine tea. I usually bring a container and take any leftover tea.
China Kitchen
Food is terrible very bland non flavorful I don’t know why it’s so highly rated. The food here comes from the frozen tv dinner section of the grocery store.
I’ve visited this place twice at different times, and despite the posted hours indicating they are open, it was closed both times. Today, I arrived at 4 PM after driving from Benicia, trusting Google’s information that it was open. This is unfair and unprofessional for a business. There were three other people standing outside, just as disappointed. Please update your hours accurately to avoid misleading customers.
Uncle Chung
I've been going to this restaurant now for three decades. I currently live in San Jose and whenever I'm in the mood for some great Szechuan, I drive from San Jose to Pinole. No other Szechuan compares. If it's your first time get the "10 ingredient fried rice", "chicken chow mein", "beef and broccoli", and DO NOT forget about the "princess chicken". ENJOY! 😎
Uncle Chungs is the best. My family has been coming here since before I was born. Princess chicken and honey walnut prawns are a must. And if you like crispy noodles try your chow mein Hong Kong style. Uncle Chungs is family owned and a staple if you are anywhere close.
