Cheeky Cheeky Monkey
As a Taiwanese I’m pretty critical when it comes to stir fries, and this place def exceeded my expectations for a fast, Chinese stir fry rice bowl! I ordered mangolia beef w the side cabbage, the meat is not too oily nor salty, just the right amount of seasoning along with the green and white onions. The side cabbage tastes fresh and crispy, def not those catering Chinese chain where veggies are sitting in the tray for too long till they’re soft and sad. I ordered delivery when it’s kinda passed dinner time, so I was worried that I’m gonna get cold food, but everything in the bowl including the white rice came warm! My bf ordered broccoli beef and seems to be satisfied too. The bowl is simple but the everything is on point!
No. 1 Express
Delicious food at a great value. Every dish was spot on and came out quickly but we were the only table seated at 9:30PM on a Thursday. Pretty small seating area with a cluttered interior but there is clearly care behind every plate. The chongqing noodles were quite spicy and numbing - my personal favorite. The crispy duck rice was very rich, and the spicy beef soup with rice noodles had a vinegar flavor that cut through but was a little lacking. Additionally the hot and sour jelly was refreshing and spicy.
I was excited to visit. Photos and reviews looked impressive. There are one questionable photo where the chicken looked under cooked. The eating area design and layout is simple but feels comfortable. However, there are clutter on bar counter and boxes piles by the far table and under the bar counter. Food was good. The smoke duck and dried green beans stir fry was well made and very flavorful. I wish service was better. The owner and his translator has no concept of giving customer a piece and quite eating experience. They talked loudly and on speaker phone.
Chang's Garden
Our regular stop for good Hang-zhau Chinese food. Their weekday lunch specials are a great deal. However, keep in mind it’s regular price on US and Chinese holidays (if it lands on weekdays). There are so many good dishes that we rotate through on our visits. It’s a good place to eat dine out for two or even better for larger parties, where you can sample a larger variety eating family style.
Located inside a plaza with plenty of free self parking. The restaurant is clean and tidy. Service is probably one of the best in the San Gabriel valley. Our group was seated inthe private room in the back. It was a bit cold with AC blowing. We asked them to turn it down and they did promptly. The waiter and staff were very attentive. They made recommendations and took our order. The food came out quickly. It was hot and fresh. Some of the dishes were excellent, like the fish and chicken. Others were mediocre, in my opinion. Prices are very reasonable. I can't emphasize enough how great the staff is. Very polite and friendly. Would consider returning and trying other items on their menu.
Ikka Sizzling Pot
Another of our family’s go to lunch choices. Their combo lunch includes a main dish, one side, egg and a drink. Great combo! I tend to push myself to finish my order buts it’s a lot of food. My favorite is the yellow beef brisket combo while my kids like their boneless chicken combo. Great place, must visit. Also, they have new menus and with a number of new dishes to try.
There was no wait when I came for a late lunch around 2 pm. Ordered the boneless braised chicken (11.99), braised lamb shoulder (16.99), braised meat balls (15.99), and braised mixed vegetables (11.99). The food was served pretty quickly, in less than 10 minutes. Their dishes can be ordered as combos or individually but I opted for the individual portion. The portion size is reasonable for one person to finish themselves and the price is alright too. They all came with white rice even though it wasn't a combo. As for the taste, they were all pretty falvorful but a bit on the salty side. However, the tofu dish wasn't the same as the photo since it was not the same egg tofu but a different kind. A decent place to eat a meal.
May Mei Cantonese Restaurant
Very good. Small restaurant in a big plaza. The food is really good, all are large portions too. Their fried fish plate is really popular and love the Mongolian beef, cooked to very soft and tender. The service is very fast and the staff are all very friendly. Would definitely come back again.
Unfortunately, I had a BAD experience with the service here. I didn’t realize I had no card or cash with me, so I asked if I could pay with Apple Pay. The staff member simply walked past me and said “NO” without offering any help or alternatives. I mentioned I had other payment options like Zelle, but the manager treated me like I was trying to avoid paying, which was both awful and embarrassing. The food itself was good, but service like this really changes the whole experience. I won’t be coming back because of how I was treated. If you decide to give this place a try, make sure you bring a physical card or cash—they don’t accept NFC payments like Apple Pay.
Four Sea/Si Hai - Arcadia
Good basic 小吃 (small bite) dishes. Not great, but not bad either. Lot of choices. Too many probably, because the gluttony to have a bit of everything kicks you into decision paralysis. Best to come with a large party of people so you can order lots of stuff or know what you want. The staff seems very overworked. On the day we visited, it was two young and industrious women who had to serve and clean up. Any criticism for Four Seas would be directed toward the customers. Many parents plant devices in front of their kids once they are seated with no regard for the device volume. Others talk loudly on their phone with speaker on. This is a place to grab something to eat and not a place to have a relaxing meal. Would do take out next time. Kudos to the staff for their good service in a challenging environment.
This is small little Taiwanese breakfast restaurant. You go up to the cashier order your food (a little similar to Chick-for-a style), and they will delivery your food to your table. Ice sweet soy milk - not too sweet, watery, or think! Tasted perfect! Salty rice roll with pickle and fried egg - the Chinese donut is not crispy, and that was the only thing I am going to pick on. Potstickers - lack of flavor, but yet juicy and tender! Daikon cake - I thought of harsh brown when I was eating that. The texture was too hard and rough. It should be a little softer and with more Chinese sausage in it. Pork sandwich - it is decent. The pork belly was a little too dry. A lot of potential for improvement! Keep up the good work!
