Al's Drive In
Got here to grab a bite so it's a cash-only joint but they have an ATM on location that charges $3 to get some bread. I went with an Italian Beef w/ nacho cheese, dipped w/ hot peppers. Two chicken egg rolls and small beef fried rice. Started with egg rolls they were cool 7.2 decent flavor but just okay. Next, the beef fried rice again was alright tbh not great but mid not sure they using a wok back there cuz some was a little off with the rice 7.3. The star of the show was the Italian Beef which is a certified banger 🔥🔥🔥🔥 9.7. It was a juicy mess and loved it... the beef with nacho cheese plus peppers was delicious. Wish they put a little more beef on the sandwich but minus that it was on point. Overall the spot is an 8.5, I'll only come back for the Italian Beef and can get better Chinese food elsewhere in the city.
If you read any of the reviews for Al's Drive In online, people have a ton of nostalgia for this place. I find nostalgia for a restaurant can play a negative role for those who don't have the association, but that wasn't the case for me who only ate here for the first time today. The Chicago dog and super taco were solid but the combination fried rice was the hero for me. Never thought l'd find this kind of wok hei flavor from a Chicago Red Hots institution in Maywood, IL that would remind me so much of the fried rice I grew up with at my Chinese immigrant family's restaurant in Arizona. Honestly just throw in some bean sprouts and you'd have a 1:1 copy. I may not have the same nostalgia that a lot of the usuals have with Al's, but that familiar taste of home is so present in every bite of this fried rice. I'm immediately transported to teenage me devouring a large combination fried rice at my own family's restaurant after working a full day's 12hr shift in the summer and immediately passing out in my bed when I got home. I wish I had started coming here sooner.
China Wok
Lady at the counter charged all my food and then she did not put all my food in the bag I called her back and said next time she did not ask for my info or nothing and it’s not the first time this has happened something is always missing from my bag.
Half the items are cold, Sriracha is in a used Sunny-D bottle and the AC does not work easily 90° inside. Bring a towel, it's a free sauna!
China Gate
Great Chinese fast food at a good price! Ask for your condiments.
Can anybody tell me what happened to the old China gate recipe the Brown noodles and the awesome rice does anyone know if they relocated or where I can Find the old owners if maybe they relocated or they have in old school real version of China gate and for those of you who have been living in Maywood for longer than 20 years he'll know exactly what I'm talking about old school China gate I'm talking about a cross street was star video you would go rent your super nintendo game and 64 game call it A-day you know the good old days so somebody hit me up let me know what's up
Tasty King
A solid Chinese food spot at an affordable price. I had their three item plate with orange chicken, beef broccoli and mushroom chicken with rice, chow mein and a Diet Coke. Overall it was a lot of portions for the money. The orange chicken was good, the beef broccoli was also descent and the mushroom chicken was delicious. Overall, all three were good and it didn’t disappoint for the price. I’d definitely come back here again to try their other menu items.
Me and my coworkers order here once a week and it never misses. Get your a big plate for just $10 that is enough to feed 2 maybe even 3 people and delicous. This place over panda any day. I order Egg drop & hit and sour soup and cold rainy days. This place is fast grab and go in and out.
Wang Wang Super Taco
Always trust your instincts when thinking about ordering from an odd place like this. General Tso's with Pork Fried Rice - Tasted closer to a sweet mango sauce oddly enough. It wasn't terrible, just weird. Texture was spongey. The rice barely had anything mixed in and was very bland. Cold Noodles with Sesame Sauce - Hot, dry, plain lomein noodles with a Peanut Sauce mixed in, and used the same chopped lettuce as they did with the burrito. An odd appetizer. Pork Egg rolls were surprisingly not greasy and tasted good enough. Chicken + Steak Burrito - One of the worst "burritos" I've had in my life. It wasn't wrapped, the meat was dry and had zero flavor, mixed in with a pound of flavorless rice and black beans. A pinch of cheese was melted on top of the lettuce. A few squares of tomatoes were laying around too. This has to be one of the most sad, effortless meals prepared from any eatery. The night of / next day was not fun either. 5 trips to the throne! Only after eating about 1/3 of each item above. If you're desperate for Chinese, come here and there might be something you'll like. But don't even think about getting anything from their Mexican menu.
I hadn't been here in about a decade but I decided to give it a try. Service is super friendly and the food was surprisingly fresh. Keep in mind I purchased a couple of Chinese dishes and they reminded me of how Americanized Chinese take out was prepared years ago before many places decided to jazz it up and raise the prices dramatically. The General Tso's chicken and Chicken with Chinese vegetables hit the spot and the price tag for 2 lunch specials and a can of soda was just over $20. One thing I noticed was that the prices on the "Tex Mex" style food seemed a bit higher than what they were worth.
Dragon Garden
She makes the Absolute BEST garlic sauce. Authentic. And BEST eggrolls around 🤗 Been open a really long time. They're number one. I go no where else first:):)
Ate there last week. Felt something weird in my mouth and spit out in a napkin. Turned out to be a long springy piece of steel wool. Showed it to them and they didn't seem to care much. When we were leaving she handed me a sliver of paper and said $15 off next time you come. My girl even heard her say $15. Gave them the benefit of a mistake and returned tonite. Ordered my food and suddenly she says $12 after i gave her the paper. What about the $15 off? " oh no. No $15 you get 15%". Had I known they would pull a switch like that I never would have returned.
