Happy Valley Village/ Shanlitun
This restaurant offers an incredibly authentic Northern Chinese dining experience. Despite the entire building being under renovation, the restaurant remained open, and we were lucky to visit around 2 p.m. (just before their break time) without having to wait. The interior is beautifully designed to evoke old-time China, with every detail, from the decor to the bowls and chopsticks, capturing a nostalgic charm reminiscent of the Red Guard era. It truly felt like stepping into a cozy restaurant run by a Chinese grandmother. We ordered the Chicken Stewed with Mushrooms, served in a large pot with a timer set for about 12 minutes. The mushrooms added a rich, earthy depth to the broth, perfectly complementing the tender chicken. I visited with a Chinese friend who was thrilled by the dish, saying it tasted just like home. Next time, I’m excited to try more dishes, especially the Guo Bao Rou (sweet and sour pork), and explore their extensive menu further. Highly recommended!
Very kid-friendly! If you’re looking to enjoy authentic Northern-style Chinese cuisine, this is the place to go. Highly recommend for families and anyone craving traditional flavors.
Tasty Noodle House - Hacienda Heights
A hidden Chinese gem is what I can describe this small family owned restaurant. It’s actually hard to find cause it’s in a corner right after the 99 Ranch Market. The Chefs are all Mandarin Chinese and they take their cooking seriously. We thought about trying this restaurant out and we were not disappointed. Our server, Snowy was as very nice and attentive. She took our orders quickly. Our order came out fast and piping hot. We ordered Yeung Chow Fried rice, Shrimp & Vegetable pan fried, Grilled Pork Bun and Pork Chop.
What happened to this place ??? Dishes looks good but, tastes awful !!!! Too many things wrong with each dish, can’t describe them all !!!! Was told they changed cook. We took few bites of each dish and left the rest, it was so bad that we didn’t want doggy bag.
Tian You Feng Dumpling House
(7/2/2023) Try this restaurant after Tumbling was lots of people waiting in line, and eventually it turned out decent in my opinion. Service was friendly but it could be better (faster). For food, Hot and Sour Soup was okay because ingredients wasn't match as I expected (Ham instead of Shredded Pork). Dumplings was good because it was juicy, and I Recommended Shrimp & Pork Wonton and Beef Noodle Soup because it was delicious and not too spicy. Probably one of my replacement dumplings restaurant options, and I would like to try Pan Fried Pork Buns next time because lots of customer ordered and it looked pretty good.
This is the place for dumpling lovers! They got pan fried dumplings, steam dumplings and all other yummy food. Best in town. Highly recommend!
Yue Hai Restaurant
The special lunch offered is different from the picture and the actual product. It is not very fresh. The service is not very good. The plates were not changed during the meal (Picture 2) and the food was very slow to come out. Only the special lunch came out very quickly. It makes people suspect that it is pre-made. In short, the experience is not good. I will not come again.
I ordered the ginger scallion lobster and it was $28 per lb. It was very good. They ran out of corona beer. I took clients there and they all Loved the food. The dim sum was very good. Har gow was yummy and the seafood fried rice and scallop dumplings and shu mai was so good. I have to say the service was a bit tough. It took forever for me to pay, it felt like I was being ignored. I was just surprised because there were plenty of workers. Overall a good experience.
Northern Cafe
Good for a quick food. No queue in sat night. The lamb pot is not good (too little meat). Others seem good to me (my friend doesn’t like the chicken).
Small spot but amazing Chinese dishes. I ordered the beef shank noodle soup with the flat noodles (you get to choose which ones you want). First of all, it’s huge. In it came with 2 large bone in shanks which were tender and delicious! It wasn’t spicy but it was very flavorful. I added chili oil to spice it up. Next time I’ll just order it spicy. I was really impressed with this place. Def going back there for more!
Shanghailander Palace
The food here is very good—authentic flavors that really satisfy! However, the service needs improvement. After we were seated, we felt ignored for a while, which took away from our experience. The atmosphere is similar to many Chinese restaurants, but the restrooms could be cleaner.
Shanghainese spot good for big groups. Came here for lunch in a group of 6. We were there at 11am (the opening) and were able to get a table immediately. The food is authentic and my boyfriend, who had never tried Shanghainese food prior to this, really enjoyed it. The best dishes in my opinion were the Shanghainese shu mai (which comes with rice inside) as well as the xiao long bao. Free easy parking. Credit cards accepted. They do serve alcohol.
Spicy Home
@5/2/25This restaurant will be moving to a nearby location soon. I hope they move to a bigger place. It will make you wait less. Very tasty and slightly spicy food that suits me as a foreigner. The food tastes good and the price is not expensive If you think of spicy Chinese food, this is the best place Friendly and plentiful of food ordered. If you like Chinese Sichuan spicy food, you must visit... Spicy food is quickly addictive, so it reminds me of a restaurant The restaurant that elderly parents love so much, already 3 times a month It is a favorite food of my elderly parents. I wish it was a bit spicy like mainland food Most people are eating out less these days because the prices have increased and the amount of food seems to have decreased...
Honestly would come back to try other dishes. When they say choose a Chinese or Asian restaurant with lower stats and you won't be disappointed is true. This is that spot. I was in the area and was planning on going to Mountain House, but of course to no avail. I saw Earthen and we planned to go there but was like let's check out each of the restaurants in that area. Decided on Spicy Home because it looked legit. Like the people inside were having a good time, plates were clean, bellies looked full. Got the mapo tofu and pork belly dry pot stir fry dish and the portion was large. Price was fantastic too! I think all in all, this place has great variety (like if you're not familiar with szechuan food you'd still enjoy a spot like this). Right prices, perfect portions. A spot you'll need to share because why would you go to a spot like this without sharing?! It's a little packed and service was just fine. next time I got to try other dishes though!
Taipan Kitchen
It's a delicious traditional Hong Kong-style restaurant. I had the House Special Noodle (double-sided crispy noodle). Mom and I also ordered the Singapore rice noodles, basil clams, and mixed veggies. The two noodle entrees were surprisingly delicious. The house special noodle was served with roast pork slices, chicken and fish fillet, and veggies. the clams was well flavored and with lots of fresh basil. The mixed veggies was the weakest link in this meal; it had the bean sprouts base with some snap beans, carrots, black woodears. All dishes were yummy; the only thing we would ask would be lighter sauce for our next visit.
Assorted preserved meat clay pot rice and XO sauce Chow Fun are quite delicious and prices are reasonable.
Panda Express
Tonight was not a good experience. Picked up food but they charged me for rice, a few strands of noodles the entrees seemed to have switched places with the side dishes. Panda is not known for serving an abundance of food which is good for eating sensibly, but tonight I am so disappointed. Here we have a double order of orange chicken with noodles. Seriously? Noodle bowl with honey walnut shrimp. You can count the shrimp, again not expecting a pound but this seemed under the top as opposed to over the top. This is supposed to be a broccoli beef bowl with steamed rice. Again sensible i understand but this is ridiculous. When I saw the plates I actually looked at the server and asked: “where’s the broccoli?” She smiled but said nothing. The person that appeared to be the manager heard me but did nothing as well. My family and I have been coming here for years, lately ordering delivery which seemed like the reason why the orders were light. 🤔 Today was the last day I visit this Panda. Perhaps this is the universe suggesting we cook at home.
Some have a good customer service took too long to get my food this time around but the worse part is that they serve low amount food, not coming back here again. This isn’t my first time here and every time is the same thank goodness there’s a Chinese food that just opened up near by.
