Davis Noodle City
Noodle House, as my family and I lovingly call it, is an icon in Davis. It's a little hole in the wall behind Sophia's Thai Bar that was referred to my husband and I 15 years ago. We walked in and almost left because it's small... and old... and a little sketchy? But we decided to give it a try anyway. We have been coming regularly since then, and our family has grown, and grown up begging to go there for special occasions like getting good grades, etc. There is nothing we have had that isn't delicious. I highly recommend the won ton noodle soup, pork chop noodle soup, szechuan eggplant with noodles, the potato curry with noodles, the 5 spice beef noodle soup, and the chow mein. The noodles are homemade. The broths and sauces are unique, delicious, and literally award winning. The service is fine. It's the same lady for the past several years. She's quick and efficient. Before that, I think it was her mom or aunt. You won't regret trying it out - and if you do, you'll be back.
So so so wonderful!! I got the sesame balls, kimchi tofu noodle soup & jujube honey tea. All ingredients just had the best mouth feel! So much better than I could have anticipated!! All for a really great price! ๐๐ ๐ฑand tons of vegan options!๐ฑ 5 stars!!
Hunan Bar & Restaurant
Hunanโs is the spot for their lunch specials! We always came here while attending UCD. Parking is fairly easy, thereโs street parking paid and time limited throughout the area. Staff are super friendly and has been a family business in Davis for over 30 years. Perfect spot for your Chinese and Chinese American dishes!
I was pleasantly surprised by the authenticity of this Hunan restaurant. I ordered four dishes in total, and the overall quality exceeded my expectations. The Changsha stinky tofu was the first time Iโve experienced such authentic stinky tofu in the entire US. Although it was listed under the cold dishes, it was actually served hot. The tofu was incredibly juicy and flavorful. The rice noodles were also exceptional, especially considering the price range. The pork intestines were prepared nicely as well. I must say, students in this area are fortunate to have access to such an authentic Chinese restaurant at a relatively reasonable price.
Dumpling House
The restaurant was a bit stuffy. The fish and chips tasted like fish and went the best. They were okay, but not good enough to go back. For half of their menu to sell fish I would expect better sauce than from an individual squeeze packet. They are good about prices. The price point is very reasonable and the portion size was big. I ordered the 3 peices fish and chips
Best Pork & Vegi Pan Fried Dumplings ever eaten. Our 2nd time here ~We will be back. Also enjoyed Honey Walnut Shrimp and the Pork & Shrimp Wanton Soup.
Tim's Kitchen
10/2024 Visited on a Friday night. Not busy. I ordered the Crispy pork belly rice plate ่็ฎ็ง่้ฅญ and Green Bean with garlic sauce ่่ธๅๅญฃ่ฑ. It totaled to about $22. The food was better than average. The portions are sizeable; with the two dishes I ordered, it could easily feed two. The green beans with garlic sauce was pretty good. I can see why a restaurant like this would/is doing well in a college town like Davis. The service was direct and no nonsense. If you order a plate, it comes with a drink. They're happy to get you anything if you get their attention. The atmosphere is pretty standard for a Chinese restaurant; the decor is the same, they have a TV playing dramas, etc. The only thing I have to bring into question is their cleanliness. The silverware I had received was visibly dirty... Staff was happy to replace it of course. Would I come back here to eat again? Probably not. Despite the food being reasonably priced, portions large, and the food tasting decent, for Chinese food, I wasn't blown away enough to want to come back. (And of course, the cleanliness factor plays a huge part... makes me think what ISN'T clean that we can't see...) 3 out of 5 rice plates.
Portions are good with most items on the menu being under $14 even a meal with NY steak is priced at $12.95 which good portion sizes. Would recommend if you want a delicious, cheap meal.
Open Rice Kitchen
First, the food is great value for the money. But quality is another question. Got the Chicken Chow Fun special and it was super greasy and drenched in dark soy sauce. The rice noodles werenโt even pulled apart and in giant clumps. Food is 2 stars, but the price gets it the extra star.
Unexpectedly good and varied Chinese food at inexpensive prices, generous portions. Jorge at the front was incredibly kind, prompt, and checked in on us often - would definitely come back!
Tasty Kitchen
Our college friend group recently returned to Davis for a visit, and this spot is a must-visit for us Aggies! It holds a special place in our hearts, bringing back so many great memories. Each of us ordered a dish based on our college favorites: the House Fried Rice, Hand-Shredded Chicken with Jellyfish, and Braised Tofu with Vegetables and Mushrooms. The Hand-Shredded Chicken with Jellyfish remains my all-time favorite! It's hard to find this unique flavor anywhere else, and it tasted just as delicious as I remember from my college days. The food was tasty and nostalgic, making the experience even more special.
First off, I'm working in Davis from out of town and was craving Chinese food on a Monday night. I was pleasantly surprised by how good this place is. I love Chinese food and have my go to spots back home in Los Angeles but I'd easily put them towards the TOP. Big portions, fresh taste and a great selection to choose from. I ordered the fried rice, chow mein, orange chicken and broccoli beef and that was for one person. Had plenty for lunch the next two days. I will be back next chance I get ๐.
Tasty Palace ๅ้ฆ้
We order 4 dishes: the Sichuan / Hunan style cuisine of boiled beef and lamb and baggage griddle dish were good. The more Cantonese / American style Chinese dishes of wonton soup and sweet and sour pork chops are skippable. Takeaway is they make good authentic Chinese dishes, stay away from the American ones. Upstair seems to be a ktv.
I had lunch at Tasty Palace on 8/21/24. The dining room was far too hot. They left all of their doors wide open and didn't turn on their air conditioning. The food was fine but who serves beef chow fun with steamed rice. The service. was ok. Overall I gave it only 1-star.
