The food is too salty! We ordered pork, duck, and cha shao noodle. This place used to be good. However, today’s food is so salty! The noodle is unbearably salty. The spicy duck too! So salty! We have been drinking so much water for the rest of the day. Also, the bbq pork is just so dry! We will not go again.

Wow, Judy's wonton soup tastes so rich and the wontons are filled with delicious meat and veggies. I can have this type of wonton soup every day!

Honestly, it is a very reasonably priced Chinese restaurant. The food is good and the service is fine. They have a great lunch menu that is mostly catered to American palet and other authentic Chinese dishes. This is definitely a family friendly restaurant located in a strip mall. I'd recommend giving them a try. We'll definitely be back!

A hidden gem in the greater Twin Cities area. I came here for lunch on Saturday and absolutely loved the soup noodles. We got the beef brisket and the pork ribs one. I recommend the beef one more - the meat was just more tender and more flavorful. The squid rolls were amazing. I highly recommend this dish if you like squid. It was a good mixture between crispy and squid texture. I recommend this place to anyone who likes spicy food (they have non-spicy dishes too). The drive was a bit far but definitely a must check out place if you’re in the area!

Update: I come here at least once a week for sushi. The sushi is always top tier. got my lunch from here today and overall it was a great meal. The sushi was extremely fresh and absolutely phenomenal. Their sushi was actually better than most places I’ve been that are dedicated to sushi. The orange chicken itself was good, nothing too special. The rice was very DRY! Other than the rice being dry, it was pretty good. You can kind of see how it’s like sticky rice so it dried out really fast once I opened the container to eat. I will definitely come back here for the sushi and roll alone!

Ordered on line for four people. Ordered at 12:30pm for a 5:30pm delivery. Great on-line site to order. Forgot an item so I called and man on the phone was able to pick out our order and add the item. Came right on time and food was nice and hot. Very polite delivery person. Portions were generous and everything we ordered was correct. Hopefully other people have the same experience.

New location, bigger, brighter, spacious layout with average service. Understandable under staffs during soft opening. Water, tea, Digital and eliminated dimsum menu provided once we seated. But it takes a very long time to flag a staff to place the orders. The orders take even longer to arrive on the table. It wasn’t busy. If you have little ones, you should order once you seated. The wrapper of the shrimp dumplings and chive dumplings were a little too thick. custard pineapple buns with coconut were very dry. Pork dumplings and Mild sweetness egg custard was okay. Tender Pork with salted and pepper and flavorless crispy noodles with chicken and vegetables was average. Extremely bland string bean dish and Shrimps, eggs and chives dish contains mostly chives( the worst I ever had). Overall every single dishes were lack of flavor/lack of seasonings. Hopefully it will improve in the future.

3 stars is being nice more of 2.5 ✨. Putting in consideration that it's a soft open at the new Bloomington location and that we came before the Friday dinner rush. Waited a little bit to get a tablet to see the menu and sat awhile to put in our order... That was just the beginning of it all. It took 35-40 min for food to completely come out. Food was warm/cooler than it should be. It seems like it was sitting in the kitchen for awhile waiting for the waiter to serve it. An extra 40+ minutes literally in waiting for the check to come out and they have the audacity to charge 18% for a family of 3. Trust me we were not the only unhappy ones waiting for the check. Bill came out to be $145. I saw an older couple in their 80's sitting there waiting for the check way before us and the husband had to walk around struggling with his legs to find someone to ring them up. Smh 🤦🏻‍♂️We tried to flag down 3 different staff to get our check. Don't even ask about how long it took us to get togo boxes. After asking 3 staff we still waited for a long time. It got to the point my wife stood up, raised her voice very uncommon for her to do that and waived the guy in front (host/owner) to ring up our check. It was not a good experience! Food was good slightly salty but there was no refills on the water or extra napkins. Very understaffed but don't do that - Service is service and you deserve tip when it's earned. Charge when it's 6+ people or more. Very disappointing! Wait for this place to get their kinks situated before trying it out because it not worth the long wait IF you're a loyal fan of the original location at the UofM. Location is very inconvenient and tucked away between hotels, motels, and business buildings across from Walmart. Somewhat going out of your way to find it.

This is one of those low key hidden gem restaurants that serve authentic food without a doubt, because it's not only difficult to locate, but also relatively exclusive in terms of its clientele. I enjoyed everything I have had here so far and definitely appreciated the authentic aspect of the food they have. The only improvement I could suggest was the taste of a lot of their dishes, as flavors tended to be on the mild side. It doesn't mean their food is any less authentic, though, and I would recommend all that are looking for authentic Chinese food to visit here. Individually, I ordered dishes that I would normally order in Chinese restaurants, so while I am not sure if there's anything I can necessarily recommend yet, I will say that I thought every dish I have had were above average in comparison to the same dishes I have had elsewhere. My favorite so far is the fried pork in scoop (锅包肉) and I don't even regularly eat pork. There was a nice layer of sweetness and sourness witht the sauce outside the pork pieces. The vegetable dishes like eggplant in garlic sauce (鱼香茄子), green beans with garlic (干煸四季豆), and Chinese cabbage (手撕包菜) are all tasty enough. The Chinese cabbage contained a lot of vinegar, and I bet some people would enjoy that. I didn't taste enough cumin in the cumin lamb (孜然羊肉) dish, but there was an abundant amount of lamb and I appreciated it. The spicy pepper chicken (辣子鸡) was very delicious and had the right amount of spice in my opinion. There is a Relaxing Healthy Center that's connected to the restaurant and apparently that establishment has been very popular, especially in the evenings. I have not visited there yet but I heard that it was similar to saunas in China, and I would love to visit there soon. Regardless, this is a hidden gem, hole in the wall, type of spot and I would definitely recommend everyone.

On a Saturday at 11:30 am, we arrived at the restaurant and found that we had the entire place to ourselves. The interior was spacious and bright, with plenty of natural light. Our server was friendly and helpful, answering all my questions about the menu. We ordered dumplings, general tao’s chicken, shrimp fried rice, and beef fried noodles (lo mein). Every dish was fantastic! Unlike most Chinese food that can make you feel heavy and bloated, the flavors were light and delicious. We were impressed with the quality of the food; the shrimp fried rice had large, fresh shrimp, and lo mein noodles were cooked perfectly. I know this place is a hit or miss from previous reviews but give it a chance yourself. We highly recommend this restaurant to friends and family and will definitely be returning. We hope that it will be around for many years to come! I had to mention their spicy pepper chicken and Kung Pao chicken that we tried the other day! I'm so happy I asked the server what her favorite dish was- spicy pepper chicken isn’t as spicy as it looks and packs so much flavor and crispiness! The Kung Pao was very light and fresh!

First timer here but pretty disappointed. We ordered a stir fry garlic watercrest ($18.95) and a clay pot taro and roasted duck ($28.95). Definitely way overpriced for what it is!!! First of all, the amount for the dishes are soooo small and we both walked out still hungry. Also, I don't think this veggie is watercrest. I'm not a plan biologist but this is definitely not the watercrest I used to have like in other Chinese restaurants. Eyeball net weight of this dish is probably 8-10oz? $21.95 for real??? And It's not like the taste is so heavenly to be worth this price. Don't get me started on the clay pot duck. A small amount of duck pieces and every piece is sooo fatty and couldn't even be consumed. There are also a few pieces JUST the skin!!! 40% napa cabbage on the bottom, 30% taro and 30% duck with which 70% fat?!?! We also didn't get a fruit plate at the end like any other table did....... I asked to switch an order 5mins from it being placed and was told that the chef has started cooking it. I was like fine. Waited close to 40mins to have the first dish on the table? What kind of veggie takes 40mins to cook? I have an assumption that they prioritize who ordered the expensive dishes because whoever came after us and ordered lobster has gotten way faster than our stir fry veggies! I know inflation is a thing but don't be taking advantage of customers like that?!

We absolutely adore this restaurant—it’s a family favorite and a regular go-to spot for us! Whether it’s dim sum or dinner, we’ve visited countless times and have never been disappointed. The dim sum here is fantastic, featuring all the classic dishes you’d expect, and everything is always fresh. With so many options to choose from, it’s easy to get carried away, but going with a group is a great way to sample a variety without overspending. Depending on when you come, you may have to wait, but usually not too long. The food is authentic, delicious, and absolutely worth the wait. The service is another standout feature. The staff is exceptionally friendly and attentive, always making sure we have everything we need. They go above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and appreciated. As for the menu, it’s incredibly vast and caters to both newcomers to Cantonese cuisine and those seeking authentic, homestyle flavors. Some of our must-order dishes include the Beef Chow Fun in soy sauce, garlic bok choy, fried jiaozi, and their flavorful soups. The portions size are large leaving you with lots leftovers. We can’t recommend this place enough!!

Food was ok, the sesame chicken and kung pao. Didn’t care for the cream cheese puffs - they were lacking any filling. The egg rolls were not good, too much of some type of seasoning/spice. Didn’t dine in, only ordered take out. Overall, would return but wouldn’t get appetizers.

Fried rice with chicken no tasted the picture seem to be appealing but the actual food tasting boring there’s no taste. Either used too much grease or butter the chicken has no taste plain and very slippery it was like eating down some water with fried rice 🤮 I added some soy sauce couldn’t even get any taste from it had to uses salt one of the worst fried rice in the country 👎

Positives: 🍽️ Variety of Options: The buffet boasts an extensive selection, including seafood dishes, crispy fried favorites, a fresh salad bar, and a delightful dessert spread. Perfect for groups with diverse cravings! 👨🍳 Friendly Service: The staff greeted us warmly, offered booth or table seating, and drinks were included with dinner—no extra charge. 🚗 Local Favorite: Despite the unassuming exterior, the packed parking lot speaks volumes! A go-to spot for Ellettsville residents, Bloomington visitors, and students nearby. ⏳ Leisurely Dining: No rush to finish—enjoy your meal at your own pace. Negatives: 🏚️ Exterior First Impressions: The outside looks dated and could use a refresh to match the bustling vibe inside. 💳 Credit Card Fee: The 3% surcharge for card payments feels outdated; consider building this into menu pricing instead. 🍲 Inconsistent Food Refills: Popular dishes (like certain seafood or fried items) sometimes ran out, requiring patience until small-batch refills arrived. ⚠️ Floor Safety: Spilled water near the buffet area was a slipping hazard—better cleanup vigilance is needed. 🐄 Missing Beef: No beef options on the dinner menu, which might disappoint fans of classics like Mongolian beef or pepper steak. Areas for Improvement: 1️⃣ Refill Strategy: Stock high-demand items more generously to avoid empty trays during peak hours. 2️⃣ Cleanliness Priority: Assign staff to monitor and clean spills promptly, especially in high-traffic zones. 3️⃣ Expand the Menu: Add a few beef dishes to balance the protein offerings. 4️⃣ Drop the Card Fee: Transparent pricing builds trust—absorb the fee into menu costs instead. Final Thoughts: China Star Buffet is a hidden gem in Ellettsville (near Bloomington) with its generous variety, friendly service, and relaxed atmosphere. While it’s not perfect—exterior upkeep and occasional food gaps need work—it’s a solid choice in an area with limited dining options. Great for students, families, or anyone craving a casual, all-you-can-eat experience. We left satisfied and would return! Note for Readers: Don’t let the plain exterior fool you—this spot’s popularity with locals and visitors is well-earned!

A really nice place to eat, very clean and the staff are friendly and great about keeping your cups filled, me and my roommate love eating lunch here anytime we get the chance.

Small little gem in Bloomington Indiana. Had shredded spicy beef , egg drop soup, and egg rolls. All were spectacular for a good price. What made the dish stand out was their use of homemade chili paste. You can really taste the char and nuttiness of the toasted peppers. Best chilli paste I've had in years from a restaurant.

So we went here last night and got some dinner and it was very hard burnt and old. I don’t suggest anyone going there especially late at night because your food will be disgusting and we went up there to try to get in Reimbursement on it and the guy was very rude! The guy said we feed everybody the same. He didn’t care that I was sick to my stomach all night. He didn’t care that it was burnt. He was a careless man. I will never eat at this place again and I will never recommend it to my worst enemy, Just kidding, I would recommend it to my worst enemy

Ordered a small fried rice and a small vegetable lo Mien. With two egg rolls. The prices were above average and the quality was very bad. The rice has nothing in it. No flavor and tasted stale. Very disappointing. Won't be visiting this place again.

This was my first time eating here. The black peppered chicken was really good. I can understand using plasticware for carryout, but should not be used when dining inside.

Had some of the most delicious food here! Everything was excellent, the scallion pancakes were CRISP, the cucumbers were so flavorful, and the egg foo young was crispy and the gravy was so delicious.

Authentic Chinese food restaurant. This is one of 2 larger Chinese restaurants in Bloomingtoon. We decided to have chinese food for lunch but wanted to try something new and we found this. It was empty when we arrived. The menu is quite comprehensive with choices or meat and veggies diishes. It serves non sipcy and also sichuan dishes. We ordered Dry hotpot, fish with sour veggie doup, pork with garlic sauce, and pork belly with garlic. It is interesting that they ran out of many veggie for the dry hotpot. The food was ready quickly, and they were yummy except the pork belly. The best was the fish soup. The dry hotpot was good, but it is similar to what we had at other malatang restaurants. Overall, it was a good lunch and good service. Pricewise, I think it is reasonable.

Alright so let's give this a whirl. Lots to talk on. Number one as people say they seem to cater to carryout and delivery well got lots of calls and walk in while we were ordering and waiting. Now we were dine in option as people have stated empty inside also I side is dated needs a little love and cleaning even just a good old scrub down and organization. We got water to drink bur they did offer a variety of drinks however bottled or canned and the fridge is in the open where they offer them from was empty looking not fully stocked or even midway to give a nice variety view. The bathrooms need an over heal for sure and a power sprayer taken to old tile again a little care can go a long way but when I see bathrooms like that it's saddening especially if you don't have a lot of foot traffic inside. But yes not much in decor or organization there the menu is very large with many items about 5 to 6 pages worth, usually this is a sign that the kitchen had to much going on so many items to keep track of and keep fresh can be hard. What we ordered tasted fresh and great except the crab ragoon had this old texture to it and the filling wasn't that great. The mapo tofu was delicious and spicey and fresh as should be. The general so's chicken was fresh hot and delicious as well. The egg drop soup was not instant but fresh made and you could taste it was good as well. I got the beef noodle soup with ramen noodles for selection of noodle a little disappointed it was more like spaghetti noodle then actual ramen so other then that flavor was there and it did taste good I did not finish that or take it to go though. We also got pork belly plate which was hot fresh and delicious as well with side of green beans in chili sauce also fresh and hot and crisp. So over all 4 out of 5 starts great service and food but lack or organized environment and cleanliness is what cost it a star i didn't give it a three star becasue they don't own the building so who knows what they have to go through to get updates done being In a strip mall location. But very good.

Got hungry after a movie so I went there with my friend thinking they would have some good Chinese food. But I was disappointed! The dishes look so dry and not fresh. Won’t go there again.
